Renault 4 Electric Now Comes With Open Roof Option

Renault has introduced a new feature for its retro-inspired electric crossover, the Renault 4 EV, adding a convertible-style roof option that enhances its appeal. The update comes just a year after the model first went on sale in Europe, bringing both design and technical improvements.

The Renault 4 EV already stands out for its nostalgic styling, which draws inspiration from the original Renault 4 of the 1960s. With the latest update, the car now offers a retractable fabric roof that allows drivers to enjoy an open-air experience. The feature transforms the compact electric vehicle into a more versatile and lifestyle-focused option.

Renault has also introduced a special trim called Plein Sud, inspired by the classic Plein Air version from decades ago. While the original model featured a more minimal design, the modern version keeps essential safety features while delivering a similar open-top feel.

The retractable roof measures about 36 inches in length and 31 inches in width. Drivers can open it partially or fully depending on preference. The design also increases headroom for front passengers, making the cabin feel more spacious when the roof is open.

However, the mechanism requires additional space, which slightly reduces rear headroom by around 1.5 inches. Renault has used lightweight materials in the roof structure to minimize the impact on overall vehicle weight.

New Features and Charging Improvements

In addition to the new roof option, Renault has updated the Renault 4 EV with improved technology and safety features. All versions now include an enhanced driver monitoring system. This system detects fatigue and distraction and can bring the vehicle to a stop if necessary.

The update also introduces a water-to-water heat exchanger. This system improves charging efficiency in cold weather conditions. According to Renault, it can significantly reduce charging times when temperatures drop, addressing a common concern for electric vehicle users in colder regions.

The new features aim to make the Renault 4 EV more practical and user-friendly while maintaining its distinctive character. By combining retro design with modern technology, Renault continues to position the model as a unique offering in the growing electric vehicle market.

The Renault 4 EV competes in the compact electric crossover segment, where affordability, design, and practicality play key roles. The addition of a convertible-style roof adds a lifestyle element that sets it apart from many rivals.
