In a landmark step towards gender empowerment and sustainable urban mobility, the Sindh government has announced the launch of a program to distribute 1,000 electric scooters to women across the province. The initiative, set to roll out through a lottery system next month, is part of a broader strategy to provide safe, affordable, and eco-friendly transportation to female commuters.
This progressive initiative was unveiled during a high-level meeting chaired by Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon in Karachi. The session also evaluated the status of ongoing transport infrastructure projects across Sindh. Minister Memon emphasized that such programs are crucial not only for improving mobility but also for creating new employment opportunities, especially for the youth and women.
All necessary preparations for the electric scooter distribution have been completed, according to government sources. The first phase targets female recipients who often face mobility challenges due to a lack of secure and accessible public transportation options. By providing electric vehicles (EVs), the government aims to increase women’s independence and participation in education, employment, and daily life.
In addition to the scooter program, the Sindh government is preparing to launch an EV taxi service in June, reinforcing its commitment to green transport solutions and inclusive development. Both initiatives are part of a broader vision to modernize Sindh’s public transport system and promote environmentally sustainable practices.
This move aligns with global trends where cities are increasingly recognizing the importance of gender-inclusive urban planning and climate-conscious policies. The distribution of electric scooters is not just a transport project—it’s a statement of intent to build a more equitable and cleaner future for all citizens of Sindh.
The government also plans to integrate training and awareness sessions as part of the rollout to ensure that first-time riders feel confident and secure using the scooters. These sessions will cover road safety, vehicle maintenance, and traffic laws, empowering women not just with transport, but with the knowledge to use it safely and effectively. By addressing both accessibility and capability, the Sindh government is taking a holistic approach to mobility—one that could serve as a model for other provinces and regions aiming to foster gender equality through infrastructure development.

What is the planning of Road Safety with Dumpers, High wheelers vehicles this could be more dangerous for our ladies if government not set the safe criteria for that project. I suggest that firstly we set the rules for Dumpers and high wheelers vehicles then allow to ride with proper ethics of Islamic culture.
