In a groundbreaking initiative, foodpanda, Pakistan’s leading food and grocery delivery platform, has taken a significant step towards sustainable mobility by introducing electric bikes (EVs) into its delivery fleet. This eco-friendly move is a collaborative effort with the Government of Punjab and Wasl, a non-banking finance company (NBFC). The initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions and set a benchmark for greener delivery solutions in Pakistan.

The launch event, held in Lahore, was graced by Shehryar Malik, Parliamentary Secretary for Excise, Taxation & Narcotics Control, and Ahmad Iqbal Chaudhary, Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee. During the event, EV bikes were distributed to foodpanda riders, marking the official beginning of this innovative program.

A Step Towards Green Transportation

The inclusion of EVs in foodpanda’s fleet aligns with the Government of Punjab’s broader mission to combat environmental degradation and foster green transportation. The Parliamentary Secretary, Shehryar Malik, highlighted the importance of such initiatives, stating, “This launch represents a significant step forward in our journey towards a sustainable future. By adopting electric vehicles, foodpanda is setting a new standard for the delivery industry in Pakistan.”

Ahmad Iqbal Chaudhary emphasized the program’s role in sustainable urban development, adding that public-private partnerships like this one can create meaningful environmental and economic impacts.

Economic and Environmental Benefits

Foodpanda’s Director of Policy and Communications, Hassan Arshad, reiterated the company’s commitment to sustainability, stating that the adoption of EVs would reduce the company’s carbon footprint while providing cost-efficient delivery solutions for riders. Riders can now access EV financing through Wasl Investment Finance, a SECP-regulated NBFC specializing in tech-driven credit solutions.

Transforming Last-Mile Logistics

With this initiative, foodpanda is leading the charge in revolutionizing last-mile logistics in Pakistan. The program is set to expand, contributing to a cleaner environment and paving the way for a more sustainable future in the delivery sector. By integrating EVs, foodpanda demonstrates its dedication to innovation and environmental responsibility, setting a new standard for the delivery industry in Pakistan.

This initiative underscores how public-private partnerships can drive significant progress in sustainable mobility, promoting both ecological and economic growth.
