Punjab Launches First Electric Bus Service in Attock

The Punjab government has officially launched its first electric bus service in Attock, marking another significant step toward sustainable public transportation in the province. Introduced under the Green Transport Initiative, the project aims to provide residents with affordable, safe, and environmentally friendly travel options while reducing carbon emissions and modernizing the public transport network.

The first phase of the project includes the deployment of nine electric buses that will operate on two major routes across Attock. The initiative reflects the Punjab government’s broader vision of promoting clean energy solutions and improving mobility for citizens through modern transportation infrastructure.

Electric Bus Routes in Attock

According to government officials, the newly launched electric buses will initially serve two important corridors in the district.

The first route will operate from POF Sanjwal Barrier No. 2 to Hazro via Bab-i-Attock, covering 26 bus stops and connecting key residential and commercial areas. The second route will run between Government College of Technology, Dhok Fateh, and Attock Khurd, serving 19 bus stops and providing improved access for students, workers, and daily commuters.

These routes have been selected to maximize public convenience and ensure that residents in different parts of Attock can benefit from reliable and efficient transportation services.

Free Travel for Students, Women, and Senior Citizens

One of the most notable features of the Attock Electric Bus Service is the government’s decision to offer free travel for students, women, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities. The initiative is designed to improve accessibility and reduce transportation costs for vulnerable segments of society.

Officials believe that this subsidy will encourage greater use of public transport while supporting education, employment, and social inclusion across the district.

A Step Toward Sustainable Urban Mobility

Electric buses are increasingly being adopted worldwide as cities seek cleaner alternatives to conventional diesel-powered public transport. By introducing electric buses, the Punjab government aims to reduce air pollution, lower fuel consumption, and create a more sustainable transportation system.

The buses produce zero tailpipe emissions, making them an environmentally responsible solution that contributes to cleaner air and improved public health. Additionally, electric vehicles generally have lower operating costs, allowing governments to develop cost-effective transit systems over the long term.

Inauguration Ceremony and Government Vision

The inauguration ceremony was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Attock, where officials, community representatives, and local residents participated in the launch event. Attendees also watched Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s address through a live broadcast.

Speaking on the occasion, MNA Sheikh Aftab Ahmed described the project as a major public welfare initiative that would provide modern, comfortable, and affordable transportation to residents while helping to address daily commuting challenges.

The Attock launch follows Punjab’s ongoing efforts to expand electric and environmentally friendly transport solutions across multiple cities. The provincial government has already announced plans for electric buses in other districts as part of its long-term strategy to build a modern and sustainable public transportation network.

Future of Public Transport in Punjab

The launch of the Attock Electric Bus Service highlights Punjab’s growing commitment to green mobility and smart urban development. As the province continues investing in electric transportation infrastructure, residents can expect safer, cleaner, and more efficient travel options in the coming years.

With free travel incentives, modern buses, and a focus on environmental sustainability, the Attock Electric Bus Service is expected to become a model for future public transport projects across Punjab.
