Tesla introduces extended Model Y with third row seating

Tesla has officially introduced a larger version of the Model Y for the American market, adding more cabin space and a redesigned seating layout aimed at families and long distance travelers.

The new variant, called the Model Y L, brings a longer wheelbase, a six seat interior, and additional comfort features while keeping the familiar styling of Tesla’s best selling electric SUV.

Bigger body adds more passenger space

The latest Model Y version features an extended wheelbase that creates additional room inside the cabin. While the exterior design remains close to the standard Model Y, the longer body and slightly raised roofline improve rear passenger accommodation.

Tesla has equipped the SUV with:

  • Two front seats
  • Two captain chairs in the second row
  • Two seats in the third row

This configuration replaces the tighter seven seat setup previously available on the regular Model Y.

The larger layout aims to provide improved comfort for passengers sitting in the rear section of the vehicle.

Performance and driving range remain competitive

Despite the increase in size, Tesla says the new Model Y L still delivers strong performance figures.

The all wheel drive Launch Edition offers:

  • Up to 325 miles of estimated driving range
  • 0 to 60 mph acceleration in around 4.4 seconds

These numbers keep the SUV competitive within the premium electric crossover segment.

Interior focuses on comfort upgrades

Tesla has also added several comfort focused features across all seating rows.

The first and second rows include:

  • Heated seats
  • Ventilated seats

The third row also receives heated seating functionality, improving passenger comfort during colder weather conditions.

The upgraded interior targets buyers looking for a more spacious and practical electric family vehicle.

Tesla continues expanding Model Y lineup

The launch comes as Tesla works to maintain demand for its core vehicle lineup without introducing an entirely new mainstream model.

Over the past year, the company has introduced several variations of the Model Y and Model 3 to reach different buyer groups and pricing segments.

The new long wheelbase version appears designed to attract customers who want:

  • More seating capacity
  • Better third row usability
  • Additional cabin comfort
  • SUV practicality with electric efficiency

New version may help boost sales

Tesla has faced increasing pressure in recent years as competition in the EV market continues growing. Industry analysts say expanding existing vehicle platforms could help the company maintain strong sales while newer projects continue development.

The larger Model Y may also fill the gap for buyers looking for a more affordable alternative to larger premium electric SUVs.

Tesla is initially launching the new version with exclusive Launch Edition features, including limited perks and software benefits for early buyers.

The Model Y remains one of Tesla’s most important vehicles globally, and the new extended version adds another option for customers seeking more interior space without moving to a much larger SUV platform.
