In a high-level meeting focused on infrastructure development in Pakistan, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Federal Minister for Communications Aleem Khan reviewed the progress and challenges of major highway and motorway projects. Held at the Chief Minister’s House in Karachi, the session covered key national projects including the M-6 Hyderabad–Sukkur Motorway, Lyari Expressway, Jamshoro–Sehwan Road, and the newly proposed M-10 Motorway connecting Karachi to Hyderabad.
Chief Minister Shah emphasized the strategic importance of completing the M-6 Motorway, stating that “a continuous motorway link from Karachi to Peshawar and Lahore is essential. Until Karachi Port is connected to the national motorway network, the project remains incomplete.” He criticized the delayed implementation of M-6 despite federal approval and called for immediate action.
Federal Minister Aleem Khan agreed on the urgency, noting that M-6 is divided into five segments, with funding already secured for three. He confirmed that the remaining sections are being financed through federal support and bank loans, aiming to expedite construction.
To overcome delays associated with the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, CM Shah proposed bridge financing of Rs. 40–50 billion from the Sindh government. He also updated the meeting on the Jamshoro–Sehwan Road, reporting that 66 kilometers are complete, with another 24 kilometers under construction.
Regarding the Lyari Expressway, a third-party audit found it unfit for heavy vehicles. CM Shah criticized the initial design and called for a separate service road to manage traffic congestion at Sohrab Goth, a major traffic choke point in Karachi.
The meeting concluded with a discussion on the M-10 Karachi–Hyderabad Motorway project, which will provide direct connectivity from Karachi Port, ICI Bridge, Gulbai, and Hub Chowki to Hyderabad. This project is expected to significantly reduce urban traffic congestion by diverting heavy and port traffic away from city roads.
These key road and motorway projects in Sindh are crucial to improving transportation infrastructure in Pakistan, boosting economic growth, and enhancing nationwide connectivity.
