New Mercedes electric sedan could offer nearly 500 miles

Mercedes Benz is preparing to expand its electric C Class lineup with a new version that could deliver significantly more driving range than previously expected. The upcoming model will focus on higher efficiency and lower pricing while strengthening the brand’s position in the luxury EV market.

The company recently confirmed that additional electric C Class variants are in development, including a rear wheel drive version designed to maximize range.

Longer range model targets efficiency

Mercedes says the future single motor electric C Class could offer a driving range close to 500 miles under WLTP testing standards. This would make it one of the longest range electric sedans in its segment.

The new variant will use a rear wheel drive setup instead of the dual motor configuration found in the current performance focused model. As a result, the vehicle is expected to deliver better efficiency and lower energy consumption.

Industry observers believe the model could still achieve well over 400 miles under American EPA testing standards if introduced in the United States.

Mercedes continues expanding EV lineup

The electric C Class forms part of Mercedes Benz’s broader transition toward electric mobility. The company is introducing multiple EV models across different segments while continuing to improve battery technology, charging capability, and driving performance.

The current electric C Class already offers strong acceleration and advanced luxury features. However, Mercedes appears to believe that buyers may prioritize longer range and affordability over maximum performance in this category.

Because of this, the future single motor version may become a more practical option for a larger number of customers.

Premium technology and luxury features

Mercedes continues to position the electric C Class as a high end luxury sedan packed with advanced technology. The vehicle includes large digital displays, driver assistance systems, and multiple comfort focused features.

Optional upgrades include air suspension, rear wheel steering, and an expanded infotainment display system that stretches across the dashboard. These additions aim to improve both driving comfort and cabin experience.

At the same time, Mercedes is also preparing higher performance variants for future release, including an AMG version expected to deliver significantly more power.

Competition in luxury EV market grows

The premium electric sedan segment continues to become more competitive as automakers push for higher range figures and better efficiency. Brands such as BMW, Tesla, and Mercedes Benz are all investing heavily in next generation EV platforms and battery improvements.

Mercedes believes the longer range electric C Class can strengthen its position among buyers looking for a luxury EV with practical long distance capability.

As electric vehicle technology advances, longer range models are quickly becoming a major focus across the luxury automotive industry.
