Hyundai Motor India has officially launched the Creta Electric, the electric variant of its highly popular Creta SUV. This new addition to Hyundai’s electric vehicle (EV) lineup marks a major step toward expanding the brand’s footprint in the growing Indian EV market. The Creta Electric promises a combination of innovative features, solid performance, and a sustainable driving experience, making it a strong contender in the mid-size electric SUV segment.

Battery Options and Performance

The Creta Electric comes with two distinct battery options, catering to different driving needs:

  1. 51.4 kWh Long-Range Battery
    • Range: Offers an impressive ARAI-certified range of up to 473 km on a full charge, making it an ideal choice for long-distance drives and highway travel.
    • Acceleration: The long-range variant can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds, providing a spirited driving experience without compromising efficiency.
  2. 42 kWh Standard Battery
    • Range: Delivers a range of approximately 390 km per charge, making it suitable for urban commuting and regular daily use.
    • Acceleration: While slightly less potent in terms of performance compared to the long-range variant, it still offers a smooth and quick driving experience.

Both variants cater to different consumer needs, whether for everyday use or longer journeys, offering flexibility and efficiency without compromising on performance.

Charging Capabilities

The Creta Electric comes equipped with fast-charging and convenient charging options to minimize downtime and ensure a hassle-free experience for its users:

  • DC Fast Charging: The vehicle can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 58 minutes, offering a quick solution for long journeys or when time is of the essence.
  • 11 kW AC Wall Box Charger: For home charging, the Creta Electric supports an 11 kW AC wall box charger, allowing the vehicle to be charged fully from 10% to 100% in about 4 hours.

These charging capabilities make the Creta Electric suitable for both urban and long-distance usage, providing convenience for everyday commutes as well as extended road trips.

Design and Features

Hyundai has maintained the iconic design of the ICE-powered Creta in the electric variant, with subtle EV-specific updates to enhance its aerodynamics and efficiency:

  • Exterior Design: The Creta Electric features a closed-off grille, a hallmark of electric vehicles that lack a traditional internal combustion engine, as well as aero-optimized 17-inch alloy wheels to improve efficiency and reduce drag.
  • Interior Design: The cabin features a modern dual-screen setup that integrates infotainment and driver assistance systems, along with a dual-tone theme for a premium feel. The Creta Electric also comes with a range of advanced features, including:
    • Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) Capability: Allows the vehicle to power external devices, making it a versatile companion for outdoor trips or emergency situations.
    • i-Pedal Technology: An advanced regenerative braking system that allows the driver to control acceleration and deceleration using only the accelerator pedal, offering a smoother and more efficient driving experience.
    • Digital Key: A feature that allows drivers to unlock and start their vehicle using their smartphone, providing added convenience and security.
    • Shift-by-Wire System: Replaces the traditional gear lever with a more intuitive and futuristic electronic shift system.

Variants and Color Options

The Creta Electric will be available in four trims: Executive, Smart, Premium, and Excellence. This variety ensures that customers can choose a variant that best suits their needs, whether they prioritize affordability, features, or premium options.

Color options for the Creta Electric include eight monotone shades and two dual-tone options, including three matte finishes. This range of colors allows buyers to choose a look that fits their personal style and preferences.

Market Positioning

The Creta Electric enters a competitive mid-size electric SUV segment, where it will face strong rivals such as the Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6, and MG ZS EV. With its blend of performance, range, and features, the Creta Electric aims to carve out a significant share of the market, catering to consumers seeking eco-friendly yet feature-packed mobility solutions.

Availability and Pricing

Bookings for the Hyundai Creta Electric are now open, with prices expected to be announced later this month. Hyundai’s strategic move to launch an electric variant of its best-selling Creta SUV reflects its commitment to catering to the growing demand for sustainable mobility in India.

The Hyundai Creta Electric is a promising addition to the Indian electric vehicle market. With its advanced technology, practical range, rapid charging capabilities, and competitive pricing, the Creta Electric offers a compelling proposition for Indian consumers looking to make the shift to eco-friendly mobility. As Hyundai continues to expand its EV offerings, the Creta Electric sets a new standard for mid-size electric SUVs in India, signaling a bright future for electric vehicles in the country.
