Global EV Charging Points to Surge 194% by 2029: Study Highlights

The electric vehicle (EV) revolution is set to gain significant momentum, as a new study by Juniper Research forecasts an extraordinary 194% increase in global EV charging points. The number of charging points is expected to rise from 21.8 million in 2024 to an impressive 64 million by 2029, marking a pivotal shift in the accessibility and convenience of EV infrastructure.

Government Initiatives Driving Growth

Government policies worldwide are playing a crucial role in this surge. The UK’s On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS), for instance, facilitates the installation of EV chargers in residential areas lacking off-street parking, ensuring broader access for urban dwellers. Similarly, the US’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law has allocated substantial funding to develop a nationwide network of 500,000 EV chargers by 2030. These initiatives aim to address consumer concerns about range anxiety and inadequate charging facilities, making EVs a more viable option for the masses.

Adoption of Rapid DC Chargers

Another significant factor contributing to this growth is the increasing adoption of rapid DC chargers, which offer faster charging times compared to traditional AC chargers. These high-speed solutions are particularly critical for reducing downtime during long-distance travel and enhancing the overall EV ownership experience. As more countries embrace this technology, the deployment of rapid chargers is expected to expand further, supporting the transition to electric mobility.

A Step Towards Sustainability

The projected growth in EV charging points aligns with global efforts to combat climate change by reducing carbon emissions from transportation. By making EVs more accessible and convenient, this expansion not only accelerates the shift away from fossil fuels but also fosters innovation in renewable energy integration and smart grid technologies.

With such transformative advancements, the EV market is poised to redefine the future of mobility, ushering in a greener and more sustainable era of transportation.
