The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has announced a revision of taxi fares applicable to rides booked through RTA-licensed smart apps, reflecting the city’s commitment to a dynamic and efficient public transport system. The new fare structure includes an increased base fare and a more detailed peak-hour pricing system designed to optimize operations and manage demand effectively.

Updated Base Fare

The minimum taxi fare in Dubai has now been increased from AED 12 to AED 13, marking a modest adjustment aimed at aligning with inflation and improving service standards for both passengers and drivers. This revision applies across all RTA-licensed taxis booked through digital platforms.

New Peak-Hour Fare System

The RTA has introduced a structured peak-hour system, dividing the day into specific slots to ensure fair pricing based on traffic density and passenger demand.

  • Peak Hours (Weekdays): 8:00 AM – 9:59 AM and 4:00 PM – 7:59 PM
    • Flagfall: AED 5
    • Peak-Hour Surcharge: AED 7.5
  • Off-Peak Hours: All other times outside the above slots
    • Flagfall: AED 5
    • Surcharge: AED 4
  • Night Hours (Monday–Thursday):
    • Flagfall: AED 5.5
    • Surcharge: AED 4.5

Weekend (Saturday–Sunday) Fare Structure

For weekends, the RTA has implemented two evening peak-hour windows to accommodate high ridership during leisure hours:

  • Peak Slot 1: 4:00 PM – 9:59 PM
    • Flagfall: AED 5
  • Peak Slot 2: 10:00 PM – 11:59 PM
    • Flagfall: AED 5.5
    • Standard Peak Surcharge: AED 7.5

Purpose Behind the Fare Revision

According to RTA officials, the new fare model aims to ensure a balance between affordability and service efficiency, encouraging drivers to operate during busy hours while maintaining comfort and accessibility for passengers. The revision also reflects Dubai’s push toward smart mobility and digital fare management, reinforcing transparency in the transport system.
