Stricter Traffic Laws Come Into Effect In Sindh

Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori has approved the Sindh Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill 2025, marking a major milestone in traffic regulation and road safety across the province. The governor emphasized that this legislation will serve as a strong deterrent against traffic violations while ensuring greater protection of citizens’ lives and property.

Stricter Penalties for Traffic Violations

The newly approved law prescribes strict legal action against violators of motor vehicle regulations. With the rising number of vehicles and frequent traffic accidents in Sindh, officials noted that stronger enforcement measures were urgently needed. The bill aims to instill discipline among drivers and reduce the alarming rate of road mishaps.

Mandatory Training for Driving Licenses

A key provision of the Sindh Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill 2025 is the introduction of mandatory pre-licensing training courses for those seeking Light Transport Vehicle (LTV) and Heavy Transport Vehicle (HTV) licenses. These training sessions will equip drivers with the practical skills and awareness necessary for safe driving, particularly for operating heavy vehicles on busy roads.

Introduction of a Demerit Points System

The bill also introduces a demerit points system for drivers. Each traffic violation will result in penalty points recorded against the offender’s driving license. If the points exceed the prescribed limit, the driver’s license may be suspended or permanently revoked. This system is designed to hold habitual violators accountable and encourage safer driving habits.

Law Comes Into Immediate Effect

Governor Tessori approved the bill under Article 116 of the Constitution, with the legislation coming into immediate effect. He reiterated that the framework would not only improve traffic discipline but also provide significant relief to ordinary citizens, making roads in Sindh safer and more secure.

A Step Towards Safer Roads in Sindh

With increasing traffic congestion and road accidents, the Sindh Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill 2025 represents a timely intervention. By combining strict penalties, mandatory training, and a modern demerit system, the government aims to establish a safer, more disciplined driving culture across the province.
