Punjab Traffic Police has intensified its enforcement drive across the province, issuing more than 30.50 lakh challans as part of a large-scale crackdown on traffic violations. The campaign also includes strict action against unfit vehicles and drivers breaking road safety rules.
According to the latest official data, the traffic police have issued 30.35 lakh driving licenses during the same period. Authorities say the combined approach of licensing facilitation and enforcement is aimed at improving overall compliance with traffic laws.
The department also collected around Rs. 6.50 billion in fines from violators. Officials describe the figures as evidence of increased monitoring and stricter implementation of traffic regulations across Punjab.
In addition to routine violations, authorities have taken strong action against environmental hazards. Around 35,000 smoke-emitting vehicles were challaned during the crackdown. This reflects a growing focus on reducing pollution and removing unsafe vehicles from the roads.
Furthermore, nearly 6,000 vehicles were impounded during enforcement operations. This step indicates that authorities are not limiting action to fines alone and are also removing severely non-compliant vehicles from circulation.
Stronger Enforcement Across Punjab
The crackdown is being carried out under the supervision of senior traffic officials in Punjab. The goal is to improve road discipline, reduce accidents, and ensure safer driving conditions across the province.
Officials say the enforcement drive targets both minor violations and serious breaches of traffic laws. Drivers are being urged to maintain valid documents, follow road rules, and ensure their vehicles are in proper condition.
The rising number of challans suggests that traffic monitoring has become more active and widespread. Authorities have expanded surveillance and increased on-ground checks in urban and rural areas.
While enforcement remains strict, officials also highlight the importance of licensing. Millions of driving licenses have been issued recently, reflecting efforts to streamline the licensing process and bring more drivers into the legal system.
The crackdown is part of a broader strategy to modernize traffic management in Punjab. Alongside fines and penalties, the focus is also on improving awareness and encouraging responsible driving behavior.

However, the effectiveness of the campaign will depend on long-term outcomes. Experts note that enforcement alone may not be enough unless paired with driver education and consistent road safety initiatives.
For motorists, the message remains clear. Compliance with traffic laws, proper documentation, and vehicle maintenance are now essential to avoid penalties and ensure road safety.
With millions of challans issued and billions collected in fines, Punjab Traffic Police appears to be maintaining strong enforcement pressure across the province.
