Kia is making life easier for its electric vehicle customers by introducing a major update to Kia EV charging convenience. The 2025 Kia EV6 and 2026 Kia EV9, the brand’s first models with a native Tesla-style NACS charging port, are set to receive a Plug & Charge feature by the end of the year. This update will allow owners to enjoy seamless charging at compatible stations without needing apps, cards, or extra steps.
Plug & Charge technology automatically authenticates the vehicle and handles billing as soon as it’s plugged into a compatible DC fast charger. As long as a payment method is set up in Kia’s Charge Pass system, owners can simply pull up to a charger, connect the cable, charge, and disconnect—no swiping, scanning, or manual payments required.
This feature, long enjoyed by Tesla owners, is becoming available on more non-Tesla EVs. The Tesla Supercharger network and Electrify America are among the major operators that support Plug & Charge. For the 2025 Kia EV6, the feature is expected to roll out by the end of September, while 2026 Kia EV9 owners will get it by the end of the year. Kia says it will inform owners directly when the update is available, along with instructions on how to use it.
Because the new Kia EV charging models come with NACS connectors. They can use Tesla Superchargers and Electrify America stalls equipped with NACS without needing an adapter. However, most non-Tesla DC fast chargers in the United States still have CCS1 connectors. Owners will need an adapter at these stations, even after the Plug & Charge feature goes live.
“With Plug & Charge, we’re making the EV experience more user-friendly than ever,” said Sujith Somasekharan, Connected Car & Mobility Director at Kia America. “Our goal is to make electrified mobility effortless, secure, and connected.”
