Kia is getting closer to bringing its compact electric crossover to US buyers. The 2027 Kia EV3 has now received official EPA range ratings, giving prospective customers a clearer idea of what to expect from the upcoming EV.
The EV3 combines a compact footprint with two battery choices, front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations, and a starting price that could make it one of Kia’s more accessible electric models.
EPA Confirms the EV3’s Range
The EPA has published range figures for the different 2027 Kia EV3 variants. The results show a significant difference between the entry-level model and the longest-range version.
The standard battery measures 58.3 kWh and powers a front-mounted electric motor. This configuration achieves an EPA-estimated 221 miles of range.
Kia’s larger 81.4 kWh battery gives the front-wheel-drive Long Range version a much higher rating of 321 miles.
The all-wheel-drive models use the same larger battery, but their additional motor reduces efficiency. Even so, both AWD versions achieve a respectable 280-mile EPA rating.

The EPA figures also slightly exceed Kia’s earlier estimates for the front-wheel-drive models. The standard version gains one mile over its previous estimate, while the Long Range version also improves by one mile.
More Power With the AWD Versions
Kia will offer the EV3 in several power configurations.
The front-wheel-drive models are expected to produce around 201 horsepower. Buyers who want additional traction can choose the dual-motor AWD version, which is expected to deliver 261 hp.
At the top of the range sits the EV3 GT. Its output rises to approximately 288 hp, with Kia targeting a 0-to-60 mph time of around 5.4 seconds.
The AWD models sacrifice some range compared with the 321-mile front-wheel-drive version. However, they provide additional traction and stronger performance, which could make them more attractive to drivers in areas with challenging weather.

The EV3 Uses a Smaller 400-Volt System
The Kia EV3 uses Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP platform, the same broader architecture found underneath several other Hyundai and Kia EVs.
However, Kia has equipped the compact EV with a 400-volt electrical system rather than the approximately 800-volt setup found in larger models such as the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
That difference affects charging speed.
The smaller-battery EV3 Light requires approximately 29 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%. Models with the larger battery take around 31 minutes for the same charging session.
The EV3 may not charge as quickly as Kia’s larger 800-volt EVs, but its charging performance remains suitable for regular road trips and everyday use.
NACS Charging Comes Standard
One useful feature for American buyers is the EV3’s charging connector.
Every 2027 EV3 comes with a native NACS port mounted on the front-right fender. This allows owners to use compatible Tesla Superchargers and other NACS-equipped DC fast chargers without carrying a separate adapter.
That gives the EV3 access to a growing public charging network from the start.

Plenty of Technology Inside
Kia has also equipped the EV3 with a broad collection of technology and driver assistance features.
Both battery versions use nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery chemistry. The EV also supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, allowing the battery to supply power to compatible external equipment.
Smartphone integration includes both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Safety technology is another major part of the package. Kia says the EV3 will offer 27 collision avoidance and driver assistance features, giving the compact crossover a substantial suite of electronic safety systems.

A Compact EV With Long Range
The EV3’s dimensions place it in the compact crossover category. That gives it a different role from larger electric SUVs such as the EV9.
However, the 321-mile EPA range of the front-wheel-drive Long Range model makes it particularly interesting. A range figure above 300 miles is still a strong selling point in the affordable EV market.
The AWD versions also manage 280 miles despite carrying a second electric motor.

For buyers who value range above outright performance, the front-wheel-drive Long Range model could therefore be the most appealing version.
US Pricing Has Not Been Confirmed
Kia has not yet announced official US pricing for the 2027 EV3.
Current reports suggest a starting price of approximately $35,000, although the final figure could differ when Kia officially opens its order books.
If the estimate proves accurate, the EV3 would sit above models such as the Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Bolt while offering a compact crossover body and a higher-range option.
That positioning could give Kia an interesting alternative for buyers who want an affordable electric vehicle without moving into a larger SUV.

Kia Moves Closer to Launch
The official EPA ratings provide an important update for the 2027 Kia EV3. The model now has confirmed US range figures, including 221 miles for the entry-level version, 321 miles for the longest-range configuration, and 280 miles for both AWD models.
Kia says the EV3 should reach US showrooms this summer. Pricing and final market details remain to be announced.
With a long-range option, standard NACS charging, V2L capability and multiple powertrain choices, the EV3 could become a strong competitor in the growing affordable electric crossover segment.
