BMW has introduced a new long wheelbase version of its upcoming electric SUV, offering significantly more passenger space and several premium features developed specifically for customers in China. The new model reflects the growing trend of automakers creating market specific vehicles to meet local preferences.
Compared with the standard version, the extended wheelbase model focuses on rear seat comfort, advanced in cabin technology, and longer driving range.

Built with passenger comfort in mind
The biggest upgrade is the additional wheelbase, which gives rear passengers considerably more legroom than the standard model.
BMW has also redesigned the rear cabin with several premium features, including:
- More spacious second row seating
- Larger rear doors for easier access
- Upgraded rear seats
- Premium interior materials
- Refined cabin styling
One of the standout additions is a 31.3 inch 8K display mounted in the rear cabin. The large screen supports entertainment, video streaming, video calls, and gaming, giving passengers a more connected travel experience.

The front cabin also receives BMW’s latest digital display system, along with a dedicated passenger display for additional convenience.

Electric performance and charging
The long wheelbase SUV is powered by BMW’s latest dual motor electric drivetrain paired with a large battery pack.
Key highlights include:
- 144 kWh battery
- 800 volt electrical architecture
- DC fast charging up to 440 kW
- Charging from 10 percent to 80 percent in around 22 minutes
BMW says the model can deliver up to 621 miles of driving range under the Chinese CLTC testing cycle. Actual driving range will vary under different international testing standards.

A model created for a key market
China remains one of the world’s largest electric vehicle markets, and manufacturers continue developing exclusive models for local buyers.
The new long wheelbase SUV follows BMW’s strategy of introducing vehicles with more interior space and additional luxury features, which remain popular among customers in the region.
By focusing on comfort, technology, and practicality, BMW hopes to strengthen its position in the increasingly competitive premium EV segment.
BMW plans to launch the new electric SUV in China next year and introduce the standard version in additional international markets.
