Hyundai has officially unveiled the eighth-generation Elantra sedan at the 2026 Busan Auto Show in South Korea, where the model is marketed under the Avante nameplate. The all-new sedan arrives with a completely redesigned exterior, larger dimensions, a more spacious interior, and significant technology upgrades that position it as one of the most advanced compact sedans in its segment.
The latest Elantra reflects Hyundai’s ongoing transformation toward more premium styling and intelligent mobility solutions while maintaining the practicality and efficiency that have made the model popular worldwide.
New “Art of Steel” Design Language
The 2027 Hyundai Elantra introduces Hyundai’s new “Art of Steel” design philosophy, featuring sharper body lines, muscular proportions, and a more sophisticated appearance.
Key exterior highlights include:
- H-shaped LED front and rear lighting signatures
- Flush door handles for improved aerodynamics
- Pronounced wheel arches
- Wider stance and longer profile
- Modernized front grille design
Compared to the outgoing model, the new Elantra is 55 mm longer and 30 mm wider. The wheelbase has also been stretched by 30 mm, reaching 2,750 mm.
According to Hyundai, these dimensional improvements significantly enhance passenger comfort and provide interior space comparable to some midsize sedans.
More Spacious and Technology-Focused Interior
Inside, the cabin has been redesigned with a focus on digital connectivity, comfort, and usability.
The centerpiece of the dashboard is Hyundai’s next-generation Android-based Pleos infotainment platform. The system comes standard with a 12.9-inch touchscreen, while higher trims offer a larger 14.6-inch display.
Additional interior features include:
- Dual wireless smartphone charging pads
- Configurable ambient lighting
- Column-mounted electronic gear selector
- Improved storage solutions
- Physical buttons for climate and essential vehicle functions
By retaining physical controls alongside digital interfaces, Hyundai aims to provide a more user-friendly driving experience while reducing driver distraction.
New Powertrain Options
For the South Korean market, Hyundai will offer two powertrain choices.
2.0-Liter Gasoline Engine
The naturally aspirated 2.0-liter gasoline engine produces 147 horsepower, representing a 25-horsepower increase over the previous generation. The upgraded engine is expected to deliver stronger performance while maintaining fuel efficiency.
1.6-Liter Hybrid System
The hybrid variant combines a 1.6-liter engine with an electric motor to generate a total output of 155 horsepower.
The latest hybrid system incorporates Hyundai’s newest regenerative braking technology, allowing the vehicle to recover more energy during deceleration and improve overall efficiency.
EV-Inspired Stay Mode
One of the most notable innovations in the new Elantra Hybrid is Hyundai’s “Stay Mode.”
Similar to features found in electric vehicles, Stay Mode allows occupants to use the vehicle’s battery to power air conditioning, infotainment functions, lighting, and other electronics while parked without keeping the engine running.
This feature enhances comfort during breaks, waiting periods, or outdoor activities while minimizing fuel consumption and emissions.
Raising the Bar in the Compact Sedan Segment
The eighth-generation Hyundai Elantra demonstrates the company’s commitment to combining modern design, advanced technology, and electrified mobility in a practical sedan package.
With a larger footprint, premium-inspired interior, advanced connectivity features, and improved hybrid technology, the new Elantra is expected to strengthen Hyundai’s position in the highly competitive global compact sedan market.
As Hyundai continues expanding its electrification strategy, the new Elantra serves as a bridge between traditional combustion-powered vehicles and the brand’s growing portfolio of electric and hybrid models.
