As Eid-ul-Fitr approaches, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has taken strict action against transporters charging extra fares from passengers. She has directed district administrations to enforce fixed fares and ensure fare lists are displayed at all bus stands to prevent overpricing.

Crackdown on Overcharging Transporters

Following complaints from passengers, authorities launched a crackdown on transporters violating fare regulations. Key actions taken include:

• 97 vehicles fined, with total penalties amounting to Rs. 500,000.

• Cases registered against 10 individuals, including two drivers, for violating fare rules.

• Immediate refunds issued to passengers who were overcharged, in some cases by Rs. 200 to Rs. 700 per ticket.

Late-Night Inspections by Authorities

To further enforce fair pricing, Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza led late-night operations to monitor fare violations. During inspections, several transporters were found overcharging passengers, prompting immediate refunds and penalties.

Strict Warnings for Violators

• DC Lahore emphasized that passenger rights must be respected and warned of serious legal action against transporters involved in overcharging or overcrowding vehicles.

• The Punjab government has assured the public that efforts will continue to ensure a fair, smooth, and safe travel experience during Eid.

Public Advisory

Passengers are encouraged to report any unfair fare hikes to the authorities to help maintain transparency and accountability in the transport sector.

With these measures in place, the Punjab government remains committed to protecting travelers and ensuring affordable and regulated transport services throughout the festive season.
