By The Sindh government has announced plans to expand the province’s modern public transport infrastructure by seeking cabinet approval for a logistics park and the procurement of 500 electric buses. The decision was taken during a meeting of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) Board chaired by Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon.
The meeting focused on several initiatives aimed at improving public transportation, promoting environmentally friendly mobility and strengthening the province’s wider transport and logistics network.
500 Electric Buses Planned for Public Transport
One of the key decisions was to move forward with the purchase of 500 electric buses. The proposed fleet is expected to support the Sindh government’s efforts to introduce cleaner and more modern public transport options.
Electric buses can help reduce dependence on conventional fuel-powered public transportation while also contributing to lower emissions and potentially reducing operating costs over the long term. For a densely populated city such as Karachi, expanding public transport can also provide commuters with additional alternatives to private vehicles.
Before seeking formal approval from the Sindh Cabinet, the relevant authorities will complete the required technical and administrative work for the electric bus project.

The proposed logistics park was another major focus of the meeting. According to Sharjeel Memon, the project could play an important role in reducing the pressure created by heavy traffic in Karachi.

Cabinet Approval to Follow Technical Work
The Sindh government has directed the relevant departments and authorities to complete the necessary procedures for both projects at the earliest. Once the technical and administrative requirements are finalized, the proposals will be presented to the Sindh Cabinet for approval.
Sharjeel Memon emphasized that the expansion of a modern public transport system remains a major priority for the provincial government. The proposed electric buses and logistics park are therefore part of a broader effort to improve transportation infrastructure and introduce more sustainable mobility solutions.
If approved and implemented, the 500 electric buses could strengthen Sindh’s shift toward cleaner public transportation, while the logistics park could provide Karachi with additional infrastructure to manage freight movement more efficiently.
