Federal Minister for Communications, Aleem Khan, has announced the much-anticipated construction of the Karachi-Sukkur Motorway, set to begin in 2025. This landmark project is poised to enhance connectivity between southern and northern Pakistan, linking Karachi Port to Sukkur and beyond.

Transforming Connectivity in Pakistan

The Karachi-Sukkur Motorway will serve as a vital infrastructure development, improving access between Sindh and other parts of Pakistan. The motorway is expected to boost trade, reduce travel times, and strengthen economic integration across the country.

Public-Private Partnership Model

The project will be developed through a public-private partnership, with the Sindh government invited to participate in its execution. Minister Aleem Khan emphasized that if no partnership is formed, the federal government will fully fund the project to ensure its timely completion.

Economic Impact and Revenue Generation

The Karachi-Sukkur Motorway is projected to generate an impressive Rs. 3,000 billion in revenue over the next 25 years. The construction phase alone is expected to provide significant economic benefits, creating jobs and spurring development in the region.

Proposed New Route

Earlier agreements between the Sindh and federal governments have paved the way for a new route that will connect Karachi directly to Sukkur. This route is designed to accommodate the growing transportation needs of Pakistan, ensuring smoother and more efficient travel for passengers and freight.

Our Verdict

The Karachi-Sukkur Motorway marks a pivotal step in Pakistan’s infrastructure development, promising long-term economic growth and improved connectivity. With its potential to transform trade routes and regional integration, this project is set to become a cornerstone of the country’s progress.

Stay tuned for more updates as Pakistan moves closer to realizing this ambitious initiative.
