Traffic Plan Issued in Islamabad Amid PSL Security Measures

As the Pakistan Super League (PSL) intensifies, Islamabad has rolled out a comprehensive traffic plan to ensure the smooth and secure movement of PSL teams through the capital. The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has issued a detailed advisory that highlights temporary road closures, slowdowns, and alternate route suggestions, effective through May 18, 2025.

The traffic management initiative is part of heightened security protocols surrounding the PSL. Commuters should expect intermittent closures on several major arteries including Faizabad Interchange, Express Highway, Murree Road, Club Road, Srinagar Highway, 9th Avenue, and Faisal Avenue. These adjustments will primarily take place during two key time windows: 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, coinciding with team convoy movements.

To alleviate disruption, the ITP strongly recommends that motorists plan ahead and use alternate routes. For instance, service roads adjacent to Express and Srinagar Highways are being promoted as viable detours. Travelers bound for Blue Area or sectors F-6 and F-7 should consider using the H-8 underpass to bypass anticipated traffic jams.

Special instructions have also been provided for those accessing sensitive or congested areas:

  • Access to Red Zone and Serena Hotel should be made via Margalla Road, Ayub Chowk, Jinnah Avenue, and Nadra Chowk.
  • Visitors to Bari Imam Shrine are advised to take Nadra Chowk for an uninterrupted route.
  • Commuters traveling between Sectors H and I are encouraged to utilize IJP Road and the Rawalpindi-Peshawar route, including adjoining service roads.

In a bid to maintain smoother traffic flow, heavy transport vehicles (HTVs) are temporarily barred from entering the capital during the specified times. Additionally, routes from Murree Road to Faizabad via Rawal Dam will be fully closed to ensure secure travel paths for PSL teams.

To enhance public awareness, “Traffic Plan Issued” signs have been strategically placed along the affected roads. Authorities underscore that public cooperation is critical during this high-security period. Motorists are urged to stay updated through official ITP channels and adhere to traffic diversions to ensure their own convenience and public safety.

This traffic advisory aims not only to safeguard PSL participants but also to minimize commuter inconvenience as Islamabad hosts one of the nation’s most celebrated sporting events.
