Toyota has officially unveiled its latest innovation, the Urban Cruiser, a compact SUV now transformed into a fully battery electric vehicle (BEV). This marks a significant step forward for Toyota in cementing its position in the highly competitive European electric vehicle market.

The Urban Cruiser is set to arrive in the UK market later this summer, with an anticipated starting price exceeding £30,000.

Bold and Contemporary Design

Adopting Toyota’s distinctive “hammerhead” design philosophy, the Urban Cruiser presents a seamless blend of rugged SUV capability and modern sophistication. Its sleek, slim headlights, robust rear quarters, and a striking wrap-around rear light bar add to its streamlined, contemporary aesthetic.

Compared to the Yaris Cross, the Urban Cruiser offers a larger profile while maintaining agility, thanks to its compact 5.2-meter turning radius.

Spacious and Luxurious Interior

Step inside the Urban Cruiser, and you’ll find a spacious cabin with a generous 2,700mm wheelbase, providing exceptional legroom more commonly associated with larger D-segment vehicles. A sliding rear seat arrangement adds versatility, making it perfect for families or urban adventurers alike.

The interior combines SUV-inspired elevation with premium design elements, such as a horizontal instrument panel and ambient lighting, creating a refined and luxurious atmosphere.

Advanced Powertrain Options

Built on Toyota’s lightweight platform tailored for BEVs, the Urban Cruiser offers two battery configurations, delivering power and efficiency:

  • 49-kWh Battery: Produces 142 bhp with front-wheel drive.
  • 61-kWh Battery: Available in two options:
    • Front-wheel drive delivering 172 bhp.
    • All-wheel drive (AWD) producing 182 bhp.

The AWD variant comes equipped with advanced traction-enhancing features, including Downhill Assist Control, Trail Mode, and Snow Mode, ensuring optimal performance across various terrains.

State-of-the-Art Safety and Technology

The Urban Cruiser incorporates Toyota’s latest safety technology suite, which includes:

  • Pre-Collision System
  • Radar Cruise Control
  • Lane Departure Alert

Additionally, the vehicle features an all-digital interface, enhancing the driving experience with intuitive controls and seamless connectivity.

A Game-Changer for the Electric SUV Market

Toyota’s Urban Cruiser is not just another electric SUV; it’s a vehicle designed to meet the needs of urban drivers while offering the versatility and performance of an SUV. With its blend of cutting-edge technology, innovative design, and spacious interior, the Urban Cruiser is set to redefine electric urban mobility.

As its summer UK debut approaches, all eyes are on Toyota’s latest electric marvel. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting addition to the EV market.
