Islamabad Traffic Police Introduces Revised Speed Limits for Major Roads

The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has introduced revised speed limits across the capital to enhance road safety and ensure the smooth flow of traffic. These limits are tailored for Light Transport Vehicles (LTVs) and Heavy Transport Vehicles (HTVs), with specific restrictions based on the type of road.

Key Speed Limits for Major Roads

The updated speed limits for major roads in Islamabad are as follows:

  • Kashmir Highway, Islamabad Highway, Murree Road:
    • LTVs: 80 km/h
    • HTVs: 65 km/h
  • Constitution Avenue, Jinnah Avenue, Faisal Avenue, Khyaban-e-Iqbal, Park Road, New 7th and 9th Avenues:
    • LTVs: 70 km/h
    • HTVs: 65 km/h

Other Roads and Specific Limits

  • Lehtrar Road: 40 km/h for all vehicles.
  • Kahuta Road and I.J.P. Road:
    • LTVs and HTVs: 60 km/h
  • Service Roads:
    • General: 60 km/h
    • Single-lane service roads: 40 km/h
  • Major Roads: 50 km/h
  • Near Schools and Hospitals: 30 km/h

Why These Changes Matter?

The new regulations aim to reduce the risk of accidents caused by over-speeding, particularly on busy roads. By setting speed limits near schools and hospitals at 30 km/h, the ITP emphasizes protecting vulnerable road users like children and patients.

These limits also ensure better traffic management on high-speed highways like Kashmir Highway and Islamabad Highway, where over-speeding has been a common cause of accidents.

Penalties for Non-Compliance

The ITP has urged all drivers to adhere to the revised limits. Violations will result in fines, and repeat offenders may face stricter penalties.

The Islamabad Traffic Police’s revised speed limits are a welcome initiative to improve road safety and reduce accidents. Drivers are encouraged to follow these guidelines to ensure a safer commuting environment for all.
