By The Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMTA) has announced plans to replace fuel-powered buses with fully electric buses as part of a broader strategy to develop a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable public transportation network across the province.

Under the eligibility criteria, participating companies must demonstrate experience in supplying 12-meter fully electric buses. Applicants must also provide evidence of expertise in supplying genuine spare parts and delivering repair and maintenance services for electric bus fleets.
The authority aims to ensure that selected vendors possess the technical capability and operational experience necessary to support a reliable and efficient transport system.
Charging Infrastructure and Driver Training Included
The project extends beyond the procurement of buses. Selected firms will also be responsible for establishing the infrastructure required to support electric vehicle operations.
This includes the installation and commissioning of charging stations, which are essential for the smooth functioning of electric bus services. Companies will additionally oversee driver training programs and assist with operational arrangements to ensure the successful deployment of the new fleet.
Experts note that investing in charging infrastructure is a critical component of any large-scale electric transportation project, helping maximize vehicle efficiency and service reliability.
