By The Punjab Traffic Police has introduced special arrangements to make the driving license process easier for students applying for the provincial government’s 100,000 electric bike scheme. The initiative is aimed at ensuring that eligible students can meet the mandatory driving license requirement without facing the usual delays involved in obtaining a motorcycle license.
Under the new arrangements, Punjab DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir has directed all licensing centers to provide special facilitation to students participating in the e-bike scheme. Chief Traffic Officers (CTOs) and District Traffic Officers (DTOs) have also been instructed to simplify the licensing process and provide better services to eligible applicants.
Motorcycle Learner and Regular License on the Same Day
One of the major changes is that students applying through the Punjab e-bike scheme will be able to obtain both their motorcycle learner’s license and regular driving license on the same day, subject to fulfilling the applicable requirements.
Normally, applicants have to wait 42 days after receiving a learner’s license before they can apply for a regular motorcycle driving license. However, students eligible for the e-bike scheme will be exempted from this waiting period, allowing them to complete the licensing process much faster.
A valid motorcycle driving license is mandatory for students who want to benefit from the electric bike scheme. The special arrangements are therefore intended to prevent licensing delays from becoming a barrier for eligible students.
Traffic Police Reports Sharp Increase in Licenses
The Punjab Traffic Police has also reported a significant increase in motorcycle licensing activity. More than 222,000 motorcycle driving licenses were issued during the past eight days, highlighting the growing demand for two-wheeler licensing in the province.
In addition, more than 6,500 juvenile driving permits have reportedly been issued during the current month. The figures indicate increased efforts by the traffic authorities to bring young riders into the formal licensing system.
Focus on Safe Riding
While facilitating students, the Punjab Traffic Police has emphasized that obtaining a license should go hand in hand with responsible riding. DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir directed licensing centers to provide the best possible facilities to students while also stressing the importance of safe-driving training.
The emphasis on training is particularly important as the e-bike scheme is expected to put more electric motorcycles on Punjab’s roads. Students will need to understand traffic rules, road safety practices and responsible riding techniques before becoming regular riders.
