The automotive sector in Pakistan has experienced remarkable growth in the first four months of the fiscal year 2024-25, as car sales soared by 46.73% compared to the same period last year, according to data from the Pakistan Automobile Manufacturing Association (PAMA). Between July and October 2024, a total of 30,625 cars were sold, a significant increase from the 20,871 units sold during the same months of the previous year.

Sales Analysis by Brand and Model

The data reveals a diverse range of performance across various car models, with some experiencing strong sales growth, while others faced a decline.

  • Honda Civic and City: Combined sales for these popular Honda models reached 4,424 units, marking a significant jump from the 2,239 units sold during July-October 2023-24, almost doubling year-on-year.
  • Toyota Corolla and Yaris: Toyota’s flagship models showed impressive gains, with sales rising by 65.05% to 6,655 units from 4,032 units last year. This strong performance highlights the continued demand for Toyota’s reliable sedan lineup in Pakistan.
  • Suzuki Swift: The Suzuki Swift also enjoyed increased popularity, with sales rising 26.84%, from 1,576 units to 1,999 units in the current fiscal period.

Models with Declining Sales

While many models saw positive growth, certain Suzuki vehicles recorded a drop in sales:

  • Suzuki Cultus: Sales for the Suzuki Cultus declined significantly, with only 629 units sold in the first four months of FY 2024-25, down from 1,142 units in the same period last year.
  • Suzuki WagonR: Sales of the Suzuki WagonR decreased to 737 units from 1,160 units year-on-year, reflecting a shift in consumer preferences within Suzuki’s model lineup.

Strong Performance by Suzuki Alto and Suzuki Bolan

Two models in Suzuki’s range, however, witnessed notable growth:

  • Suzuki Alto: The Alto, known for its affordability, saw sales increase by 35.90%, reaching 12,723 units, up from 9,362 units in the corresponding period last year.
  • Suzuki Bolan: The sales of the Suzuki Bolan also surged, with a substantial increase to 2,690 units from just 684 units sold in the same months last year. The demand for Bolan’s spacious and practical design may be a driving factor in this growth.

The significant increase in car sales in Pakistan’s automotive market underscores the resilience and growing demand within the sector despite broader economic challenges. Brands like Honda, Toyota, and Suzuki are leading the way, with particular models resonating strongly with Pakistani consumers. This positive trend could signal continued growth in the coming months, with the automotive industry poised to play a key role in Pakistan’s economic landscape.
