Murree Travel Advisory for Muharram 2026

Murree Police have finalized a comprehensive security plan and issued a travel advisory for Muharram-ul-Haram 2026 to ensure public safety, facilitate religious activities, and minimize inconvenience for tourists visiting Pakistan’s popular hill station.

The security arrangements have been put in place ahead of Ashura processions, which attract a large number of participants and require enhanced security measures. Authorities have urged both residents and tourists to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and follow the official travel guidelines during the holy month.

Ashura Procession Route in Murree

According to District Police Officer (DPO) Murree, Dr. Muhammad Raza Tanvir, the main Ashura procession on the 10th of Muharram will commence from the central Imambargah located in Lower Bazaar.

The procession will proceed through the historic Mall Road before returning to the starting point, where it will conclude after completing the designated route.

To ensure the smooth conduct of the religious gathering and maintain security, special arrangements have been made throughout the procession route.

Mall Road Restrictions on 9th and 10th Muharram

Murree Police have announced that traffic movement and tourist access on Mall Road and adjoining areas will remain restricted on the 9th and 10th of Muharram.

The temporary restrictions are intended to facilitate security operations and ensure the safety of procession participants, residents, and visitors.

Authorities have advised tourists planning trips to Murree during this period to avoid restricted areas and remain updated regarding traffic conditions before traveling.

Tourist Attractions to Remain Open

Despite the restrictions around the procession route, Murree Police clarified that all other tourist attractions, recreational sites, parks, and scenic destinations in and around Murree will remain open to visitors.

The advisory aims to reassure tourists that they can continue to enjoy most of Murree’s attractions while respecting security measures implemented for Muharram observances.

This is particularly important as Murree remains one of Pakistan’s most visited tourist destinations, attracting thousands of travelers during weekends and holiday periods.

Safe Tourism Murree App Recommended

DPO Dr. Muhammad Raza Tanvir encouraged residents and tourists to download the official Safe Tourism Murree mobile application.

The app provides:

  • Live traffic updates
  • Alternative travel routes
  • Security alerts
  • Tourist assistance information
  • Emergency contact details

Officials believe the application will help visitors better plan their journeys and avoid delays caused by temporary road restrictions.

Police on High Alert During Muharram

Murree Police have confirmed that security personnel will remain on high alert throughout Muharram-ul-Haram. Additional deployments will be made at key locations to maintain law and order, manage traffic flow, and provide assistance to both residents and tourists.

Authorities have appealed to the public to cooperate with security personnel, follow traffic instructions, and use designated alternate routes where necessary to ensure a peaceful and secure Muharram for everyone.

With the implementation of these measures, Murree Police aim to strike a balance between facilitating religious observances and maintaining a welcoming environment for tourists visiting the hill station.
