Kia is once again exploring the idea of building a performance focused sedan, this time with fully electric power. Company executives say the idea of a modern successor to the Stinger remains under consideration, although rising development costs continue to slow progress.
The original Kia Stinger gained attention for offering rear wheel drive performance, sporty styling, and strong power at a time when many mainstream automakers were leaving the sports sedan market. Production ended in 2023 after a single generation, but Kia now appears interested in revisiting the concept with a new electric approach.
According to Kia design chief Karim Habib, the company still sees value in creating vehicles that deliver excitement and emotional appeal rather than focusing only on practicality.
Kia wants more than SUVs in its future lineup
Kia says future plans may include a stylish electric sports sedan inspired by the Vision Meta Turismo concept shown previously by the company. The concept represented Kia’s vision for a more emotional and driver focused electric vehicle aimed at younger buyers and enthusiasts.
Executives believe many customers still want vehicles that feel engaging and distinctive, even as SUVs continue dominating global markets.
The company’s leadership explained that building a high performance electric sedan remains more difficult because of cost concerns. Advanced batteries, powerful electric drivetrains, and performance focused engineering can significantly raise production expenses.
Kia says these financial challenges currently stand in the way of bringing the project to market quickly. However, the company has not ruled out the possibility completely.
Habib noted that Kia continues betting on future EV growth and believes customer interest in sporty electric cars could expand over time. As battery technology improves and production costs gradually decline, performance EVs may become more accessible for mainstream brands.
The company’s recent focus on enthusiast oriented vehicles supports that direction. Hyundai and Kia have both invested heavily in developing more exciting electric and performance focused products over the past few years.
Futuristic Concept Cars
Hyundai’s N performance division has gained strong recognition for creating engaging driver focused vehicles, while several futuristic concept cars from the Hyundai Kia group have generated interest among automotive enthusiasts worldwide.
Industry analysts say the return of a sporty sedan could help Kia strengthen its image beyond practical family vehicles and SUVs. Performance oriented models often play an important role in building excitement around a brand, even if they sell in smaller numbers.
The challenge for automakers lies in balancing performance, affordability, and battery efficiency within the growing EV market. Large electric SUVs currently dominate sales because they provide stronger profit margins and broader customer appeal.

Even so, many brands continue experimenting with electric sports cars and sporty sedans as competition in the EV sector grows more intense.
Kia’s comments suggest the company still values emotional design and engaging driving experiences despite shifting market trends. While no official production plans or launch timelines exist yet, the possibility of a future electric sports sedan remains alive.
For now, Kia appears focused on waiting for technology costs and market demand to align before making a final decision about reviving the spirit of the Stinger in electric form.
