The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has taken a significant step toward fostering sustainable mobility by expanding its network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. With over 740 Green Charger points now available across the city, DEWA is driving Dubai closer to achieving its environmental and sustainability goals.

This expansion aligns with the UAE’s ambitious target of transitioning 50% of all vehicles to electric by 2050. As of now, Dubai is home to over 34,970 registered EVs, making DEWA’s enhanced charging infrastructure critical to supporting the rapid growth of electric vehicles in the emirate.

Accessible Charging for All

To ensure convenience for EV owners, DEWA provides easy access to charging locations via its website, mobile app, and other digital platforms. This user-friendly approach not only makes it simpler for residents and visitors to find charging points but also reflects Dubai’s commitment to integrating technology with sustainable solutions.

Encouraging Private Sector Involvement

In a groundbreaking move, DEWA has issued the first two Independent Charge Point Operator (CPO) licenses to Tesla and UAEV. By opening doors to private sector investment, DEWA is fostering healthy competition and innovation in the EV charging market. This initiative is a pivotal part of Dubai’s broader vision to establish itself as a global leader in sustainable energy and mobility solutions.

A Vision for the Future

Dubai’s proactive approach to sustainable mobility is a testament to its dedication to reducing carbon emissions and promoting green energy. The expansion of DEWA’s Green Charger network and the issuance of CPO licenses are steps that not only support the adoption of EVs but also set a benchmark for other cities aiming to enhance their EV infrastructure.

As Dubai continues to invest in sustainable technologies, it is well-positioned to lead the way in global efforts toward a greener and more environmentally friendly future.
