In a significant move towards promoting sustainable transportation and empowering students, the Provincial Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Punjab, Bilal Akbar Khan, announced the launch of the Chief Minister Youth E-Bike Scheme. This initiative aims to distribute 1000 e-bikes to students in five cities of Punjab, including Rawalpindi, in its first phase.
During the inauguration ceremony held at Rawalpindi Medical University (RMU), Khan emphasized the importance of making students independent in terms of transportation. He stated that the scheme, which plans to distribute a total of 20,000 e-bikes in two phases, will equally benefit female students.
The event, graced by dignitaries including Secretary Transport Punjab, Ahmad Javed Qazi, Member National Assembly Tahira Aurangzeb, Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Hasan Waqar Cheema, and Vice Chancellor of RMU Dr. Muhammad Umar, highlighted the government’s commitment to tackling pollution in Punjab.
Khan reiterated that pollution is a pressing issue in the province, and the e-bike scheme aims to address it by promoting eco-friendly modes of transport. He emphasized that the introduction of e-bikes will significantly reduce emissions and contribute to a cleaner environment.
Under the scheme, both government and private college and university students are eligible to apply, provided they possess a valid driving license or driving learning permit. This inclusive approach ensures that a wide range of students can benefit from the program.
One of the most attractive features of the e-bikes is their efficiency. Khan revealed that these vehicles can travel up to 100 kilometers on a single charge, making them suitable for daily commutes and short trips.
Furthermore, Khan highlighted the financial accessibility of the scheme. The Punjab government will cover 30 percent of the cost of the e-bikes, and no interest will be charged on the remaining amount. This ensures that students can affordably access this eco-friendly mode of transportation.
Importantly, the scheme is open to students from any province who are currently studying in Punjab, reflecting the government’s commitment to inclusivity and facilitating education for all.
In conclusion, the Chief Minister Youth E-Bike Scheme represents a significant step towards promoting sustainable transportation and empowering students in Punjab. By providing access to eco-friendly and affordable transportation options, the government aims to enhance mobility, reduce pollution, and improve the overall quality of life for students across the province.
