Rawalpindi: The City Traffic Police has announced a special traffic plan around Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium ahead of a busy schedule of international cricket matches involving Pakistan, Sri Lanka and England.
The traffic arrangements have been prepared for the upcoming Pakistan-Sri Lanka T20 series, followed by a tri-nation ODI series featuring Pakistan, England and Sri Lanka. Special measures have also been introduced for team practice sessions at the stadium.
According to the traffic police, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are scheduled to hold practice sessions at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on October 6. More than 321 traffic police officers and personnel will be deployed to manage traffic during practice sessions and match days.
Parking and Traffic Management Plan
Authorities have also prepared a dedicated traffic management and parking plan to deal with the expected increase in vehicles around the stadium. With a large number of spectators expected to attend the international matches, traffic officials are working to prevent unnecessary congestion and maintain smooth movement on surrounding roads.
Drivers who regularly use Stadium Road and Double Road have been advised to remain alert to official traffic announcements and consider alternative routes during peak match and practice hours.
Repair Work on Stadium Road
Chief Traffic Officer Farhan Aslam has also urged the relevant authorities to accelerate pending repair work on Stadium Road before the international matches begin.
The request also includes completing unfinished work linked to an ongoing construction project in the area. Completing these works ahead of the matches could help improve traffic flow and reduce the pressure on already busy roads surrounding the stadium.
The condition and availability of surrounding roads are particularly important during international cricket matches, when the area can experience a significant increase in traffic.
Advice for Motorists
Motorists travelling through the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium area should expect temporary restrictions during cricket team movements and match-related activities. Drivers are advised to check official traffic advisories before starting their journey and allow additional travel time.
Residents, businesses and daily commuters using Stadium Road, Double Road and nearby routes may experience temporary congestion during practice sessions and match days.
With more than 321 traffic police personnel being deployed, authorities are expected to closely monitor traffic conditions and implement diversions whenever required.
The special arrangements aim to ensure that international cricket matches can take place safely while keeping disruption to normal traffic in Rawalpindi as limited as possible.
