By Mercedes-Benz has updated the 2027 G 580 Electric with several improvements aimed at making its electric G-Class more practical. The luxury SUV now offers a native NACS charging port, faster DC charging and improved energy efficiency.
The updated model is now available to order through Mercedes-Benz dealers in the United States. Pricing starts at $165,200, including the destination charge.
More Convenient Charging
One of the biggest changes for the 2027 model is the move to a Tesla-style NACS charging port. Mercedes-Benz has replaced the CCS1 connector used by the previous model.
The new setup gives G 580 owners direct access to NACS-equipped DC fast chargers without requiring an adapter. Mercedes-Benz also provides a free adapter for CCS1 charging stations.
However, the SUV uses a two-port charging setup. The NACS port handles DC fast charging, while a separate J1772 port handles Level 2 AC charging.
This means owners who want to use NACS-equipped Tesla Destination Chargers for AC charging will need a NACS-to-J1772 adapter. Mercedes-Benz does not include this adapter with the vehicle.
Faster Charging From the Same Battery
Mercedes-Benz has retained the G 580 Electric’s large 117 kWh battery pack and its maximum DC charging input of 200 kW.
Despite using the same battery and peak charging rate, the 2027 model can complete a 10% to 80% charge in 29 minutes. The previous model required around 32 minutes for the same charging range.
The improvement suggests that Mercedes-Benz has refined the vehicle’s charging software and power management. On AC charging, the G 580 Electric supports up to 9.6 kW.
Improved Efficiency Adds Range
The G 580 Electric also receives an efficiency improvement for 2027.
Mercedes-Benz lists average energy consumption at 48 kWh per 100 miles, compared with 54 kWh per 100 miles for the 2026 model. The improvement raises the vehicle’s EPA-estimated range to 249 miles, adding 10 miles over the previous model.
The SUV still carries its distinctive boxy design and substantial weight. It tips the scales at 6,746 pounds and rides on 20-inch wheels.
For an electric SUV of this size and shape, the efficiency improvement gives drivers a little more usable range without increasing battery capacity.
Quad-Motor Power Meets Off-Road Hardware
The G 580 Electric remains focused on performance as well as off-road capability. Its quad-motor powertrain produces 579 horsepower and 859 pound-feet of torque. The electric SUV can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds.

Mercedes-Benz has also equipped the G 580 with hardware and software designed for challenging terrain. A low-range system and virtual differential locks come as standard.
The SUV also features the G-TURN function. This system allows the electric G-Class to rotate in place, giving it additional manoeuvrability on difficult trails.
2027 G 580 Electric Price
The updated Mercedes-Benz G 580 Electric starts at $165,200, including destination charges. That represents a modest increase over the 2026 model, which started at $164,550.
The 2027 update does not radically change the G 580 Electric. Instead, Mercedes-Benz has focused on practical improvements to charging access, charging speed and efficiency.
With native NACS support, a slightly faster charging time and an EPA-estimated 249-mile range, the electric G-Class enters the 2027 model year with a more convenient charging setup while retaining its high-performance and off-road character.
