Honda Atlas Cars Pakistan has officially increased the price of its hybrid crossover, the Honda HR-V e, by approximately Rs 1.37 million following the expiry of the government’s reduced sales tax concession for hybrid vehicles.
The revised pricing came into effect for all new orders placed on or after July 1, 2026, including back orders for which partial payments had already been submitted. The development follows a similar move by Toyota Pakistan, which recently revised the prices of its Corolla Cross hybrid variants due to changes in taxation.
Honda HR-V e New Price in Pakistan
The updated ex-factory price of the Honda HR-V e is as follows:
| Variant | Old Price (Rs) | New Price (Rs) | Increase (Rs) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Honda HR-V e | 8,999,000 | 10,369,000 | 1,370,000 |
The price adjustment represents one of the most significant increases in the hybrid vehicle segment this year and highlights the impact of recent tax policy changes on Pakistan’s automotive market.
Why Has the Honda HR-V e Become More Expensive?
According to industry sources, the increase is not due to a rise in Honda’s manufacturing or ex-factory pricing. Instead, it is primarily the result of higher sales taxes now applicable to hybrid vehicles.
Until June 30, 2026, Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) benefited from reduced sales tax rates of 8.5% and 12.75% for certain engine categories. These incentives were introduced to encourage the adoption of fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles in Pakistan.
However, the concession officially expired at the end of June, and the government has neither extended the relief nor announced a replacement incentive program.
Hybrid Vehicles Now Subject to Higher Sales Tax
Following the expiry of the concession, hybrid vehicles now fall under the standard sales tax structure. For vehicles with engine capacities above 1400cc, the applicable sales tax rate has increased to 25%.
This tax adjustment has significantly raised the final consumer price of hybrid vehicles, affecting several models across different manufacturers.
Industry analysts believe the higher tax burden could slow the growth of Pakistan’s hybrid vehicle market, which had witnessed increasing consumer interest due to rising fuel prices and growing environmental awareness.
Impact on Pakistan’s Hybrid Vehicle Market
The Honda HR-V e is one of the country’s most popular hybrid crossovers, known for its fuel efficiency, advanced safety technologies, and modern design. The latest price increase may influence buying decisions, especially among customers considering hybrid alternatives to conventional petrol-powered SUVs.
With both Toyota and Honda revising prices on their hybrid lineups, consumers can expect other manufacturers to evaluate pricing strategies as the new tax regime takes effect.
Unless the government introduces fresh incentives for low-emission vehicles, hybrid and plug-in hybrid models are likely to remain more expensive in the coming months. This could impact the pace of electrification and hybrid adoption in Pakistan’s automotive sector, despite growing demand for fuel-efficient mobility solutions.
