By The United Arab Emirates is entering a new era of public transportation with the launch of the long-awaited Etihad Rail passenger service, marking one of the country’s biggest infrastructure milestones. The first phase of passenger operations begins on June 30, 2026, connecting Abu Dhabi and Fujairah while laying the foundation for a nationwide railway network.
Designed to offer faster, safer, and more sustainable travel between the emirates, Etihad Rail is expected to transform commuting, tourism, and regional connectivity across the UAE.
Etihad Rail Passenger Service Start Date
Etihad Rail will begin its introductory passenger operations on June 30, 2026, with the inaugural service running between Mohammed Bin Zayed City in Abu Dhabi and Al Hilal City in Fujairah. The first route has a scheduled journey time of 1 hour and 45 minutes, providing a significantly faster alternative to road travel.
The passenger network will officially expand on September 30, 2026, when additional stations in Dubai and Al Dhaid (Sharjah) become operational. Stations in Al Dhafra are scheduled to open on December 30, 2026, while the Sharjah University City station is expected to welcome passengers on March 30, 2027, completing the initial rollout.
Etihad Rail Route and Future Network
The first operational passenger route connects:
- Abu Dhabi (Mohammed Bin Zayed City)
- Fujairah (Al Hilal City)
As more stations open, the network will expand to include:
- Dubai
- Al Dhaid (Sharjah)
- Al Dhafra
- Sharjah University City
Etihad Rail forms part of the UAE National Railway Network, a project spanning approximately 1,200 kilometres that will eventually connect all seven emirates and integrate with future regional rail links, including the planned railway connection with Oman.
Ticket Prices and Booking
Passengers can book tickets through the official Etihad Rail mobile application and website, with bookings opening from June 23, 2026.
The introductory fares for the Abu Dhabi–Fujairah route are:
- Comfort Class: Starting from AED 55
- Premium Class: Starting from AED 120
The passenger fleet consists of 13 modern trains, each capable of carrying up to 400 passengers, offering comfortable seating, onboard dining, and premium hospitality services.

The newly inaugurated Abu Dhabi passenger station features advanced ticketing systems, smart passenger management technology, retail outlets, cafés, restaurants, and waiting areas designed to provide a seamless travel experience.
