By The Karachi Traffic Police have unveiled a detailed traffic management and diversion plan for the main Muharram-ul-Haram processions scheduled on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram. The arrangements have been put in place to ensure public safety, maintain smooth traffic flow, and facilitate citizens during one of the city’s largest religious gatherings.
According to traffic authorities, the central Muharram procession will commence from Nishtar Park and conclude at Imambargah Hussainia Iranian via its traditional route. Due to extensive security measures, several major roads will remain closed during the procession days.
M.A. Jinnah Road to Remain Closed
Traffic police have confirmed that M.A. Jinnah Road will remain closed from Gurumandir to Tower during the processions. Citizens are advised to plan their journeys in advance and utilize the alternative routes announced by authorities.
For Muharram 8, commuters traveling from Nazimabad can use Lasbela Chowk and Nishtar Road to reach Garden. Traffic from Liaquatabad will be diverted via Teen Hatti and Lasbela Chowk, while motorists heading from Hassan Square towards PIB Colony can travel through Kashmir Road, Society Light Signal, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Jail Chowrangi Flyover, Nishtar Road, and Lasbela Chowk.
Similarly, travelers moving towards Numaish from Shahra-e-Faisal through Shahrah-e-Quaideen can turn right at Society Light Signal and continue via Kashmir Road.
Alternative Routes for District South
In District South, motorists traveling from Garden Zoo towards M.A. Jinnah Road have been directed to use Anklesaria Road, Gul Plaza, Coast Guard, and Holy Family routes.
For Muharram 9 and 10, procession participants from Nazimabad will travel through Lasbela and Gurumandir to reach Numaish, while participants from Liaquatabad will use Teen Hatti, Jahangir Road, and Gurumandir.
People traveling from Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Gulshan-e-Iqbal can access Numaish through University Road, Old Sabzi Mandi, Kashmir Road, and Society Light Signal.
Restrictions on Vehicles and Parking
Authorities have stated that vehicles distributing Sabeel and Niaz will only be allowed to join the procession through designated entry points at Saddar Dawakhana and Capri Light Signal. No vehicle parking will be permitted along the procession route.
On Muharram 9, Gurumandir Chowk will remain closed between 8:30 AM and 9:30 AM. Additionally, roads connecting Jamshed Road, Gurumandir, and Bahadur Yar Jang Road will remain closed from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
Entry of all types of vehicles on M.A. Jinnah Road will remain prohibited except for authorized procession vehicles displaying official windscreen stickers. Such vehicles will be allowed access through Shahrah-i-Quaideen and Society Light Signal.
Heavy Traffic Diversions Announced
Heavy commercial traffic arriving from Super Highway and Gulberg will be diverted from Liaquatabad No. 10 towards Nazimabad No. 2, then routed through Habib Bank Flyover, Estate Avenue Road, Shershah, and Mauripur.
Similarly, heavy traffic entering Karachi from the National Highway will be redirected through Shahra-e-Faisal, Rashid Minhas Road, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, Hassan Square, Liaquatabad No. 10, Nazimabad No. 2, Habib Bank Flyover, Estate Avenue Road, and Shershah towards Mauripur.
Traffic police have emphasized that no light or heavy vehicles will be permitted beyond Gurumandir Chowk on the procession route. Vehicles will instead be diverted towards Bahadur Yar Jang Road and Soldier Bazaar.
Public Advisory
Karachi Traffic Police have urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies, avoid unnecessary travel near procession routes, and follow official traffic advisories. Motorists are encouraged to leave early for their destinations and use the designated alternative routes to minimize inconvenience during Muharram observances.
The authorities have assured that traffic personnel will be deployed across key intersections and diversion points to guide commuters and ensure smooth movement throughout the city during the religious processions.
