Karachi’s infrastructure development efforts continue to gain momentum as Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab conducted an inspection of the ongoing reconstruction and development work on Jahangir Road being carried out by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
During his visit, the mayor reviewed the progress of the project’s second section and expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction. He instructed officials to maintain high-quality construction standards and ensure that the remaining work is completed within the stipulated timeframe.
According to KMC officials, reconstruction work on the second phase of Jahangir Road is nearing completion, with only finishing touches and final adjustments left before the section becomes fully operational for commuters.
Improved Traffic Flow for Karachi Residents
Speaking during the inspection, Barrister Murtaza Wahab highlighted the positive impact of the reconstruction project on traffic management in the area. He stated that traffic flow on Jahangir Road has significantly improved following the development work, helping reduce congestion and making daily travel easier for residents.
The mayor emphasized that improving Karachi’s road infrastructure remains a top priority for the city administration. He noted that modern road networks are essential for supporting economic activity, reducing travel times, and enhancing the quality of life for citizens.
KMC Takes Initiative Despite Federal Jurisdiction
Barrister Wahab pointed out that Jahangir Road technically falls under the jurisdiction of the federal government. However, recognizing the importance of the route for Karachi’s commuters, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation decided to undertake the reconstruction project to address the needs of residents and improve transportation facilities.
The move reflects the city’s commitment to upgrading critical infrastructure regardless of administrative challenges, ensuring that public convenience remains at the forefront of development initiatives.
More Upgrades Planned for the Area
In addition to road reconstruction, the mayor announced several beautification and modernization measures for the surrounding area. These include the removal of unnecessary overhead utility cables, which often contribute to visual clutter and safety concerns in urban neighborhoods.
He also revealed plans to upgrade street lighting along the corridor to improve nighttime visibility and road safety. Furthermore, improvements to the green belt are being planned to enhance the area’s appearance and create a more environmentally friendly urban environment.
Karachi’s Infrastructure Transformation Continues
The Jahangir Road reconstruction project is part of broader efforts by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation to modernize the city’s infrastructure and improve public services. With the second phase nearing completion and additional upgrades in the pipeline, residents can expect better road conditions, smoother traffic flow, and an improved urban landscape in the coming months.
As Karachi continues to expand, projects such as the Jahangir Road reconstruction highlight the importance of sustained investment in road networks and civic infrastructure to support the city’s growing population and transportation needs.
