By In a major step toward sustainable urban mobility, the Punjab government has introduced an electric bus service in Jhelum, aiming to provide modern, comfortable, and eco-friendly travel facilities to the public. The service will formally begin operations after its inauguration tomorrow, marking another milestone in the province’s efforts to upgrade public transport infrastructure.
Launched on the special instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the electric bus initiative reflects the government’s commitment to promoting clean energy transportation while improving daily commuting options for students, workers, and residents of the district.
Operating Hours and Public Convenience
To maximize public benefit, the operating hours of the electric buses have been set from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily. These extended hours are designed to facilitate students attending educational institutions, office workers, and the general public who rely on public transport throughout the day.
Officials stated that the service offers safe, reliable, and affordable travel, reducing dependence on fuel-based vehicles and helping lower air and noise pollution levels in the city.
Electric Bus Routes in Jhelum
The electric bus service will operate on three major routes, connecting important residential areas, hospitals, educational institutions, and commercial centers.
Route 1: Fauji Foundation to Government Technical College
Key stops include Fauji Foundation Hospital, Government Graduate College, Jada Stop, DHQ, Islampura, Bilal Town, Kachehri, Shadab Colony, Shandar Chowk, Machine Mohalla, Tahlianwala, Kala Deo, Pakhwal, and Government Technical College.
Route 2: Fauji Foundation to Mangla (via AC Office Dina)
Stops along this route include Fauji Foundation Hospital, Gujran, Pakistan Tobacco Company, Kashmir Colony, Citi Housing Society, Punjab University, Cadet College, AC Office, Fauji Foundation School, Dina City, Dina, Iqbal Town, Rohtas Fort, Chak Akah, Main Bazar, Hadali, Madukalis, Nakodar, Manara, Pindori, and Mangla.
Route 3: Fauji Foundation to Sanghoi
This route covers Fauji Foundation Hospital, Government Graduate College, Jada Stop, Lahore Mor, Jhelum Cantt, Nougran, Kotla Faqir, CMH, Y Cross, CSD, Ranyala, Jango, Gurah Saleem, and Sanghoi.
