Pakistan’s auto industry is steadily moving toward electrification, and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) are leading the charge. Unlike regular hybrids, PHEV cars can be charged externally and offer a much longer all-electric range, making them ideal for city commutes as well as long-distance travel. In the past few years, a few PHEVs have officially been introduced to the market, marking significant steps toward cleaner mobility.

Current PHEVs Available in Pakistan

MG HS PHEV

MG Motors was among the first brands to bring a plug-in hybrid SUV to Pakistan. Initially offered as a CBU import, the MG HS PHEV gained popularity for blending performance with efficiency. In October 2024, MG began local assembly (CKD) of the HS PHEV, making it more accessible.

  • Powertrain: 1.5-litre turbo petrol plus an electric motor
  • Output: About 260 hp and ~370 Nm torque
  • Battery: ~16.6 kWh pack with a usable electric range plus hybrid mode
  • Performance: 0–100 km/h in about 7.1 seconds
  • Price: Rs. 9,899,000 (ex-factory)
It stands out as one of the first mass-market PHEVs assembled locally with a decent electric-only range for city driving.

  • Powertrain: 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol + electric motor, Great Wall’s Hi4 AWD system
  • Output: ~360 hp and 760 Nm torque
  • Battery/Range: Sizable battery with a combined range exceeding 1000 km
  • Price: Rs. 12,895,000
It stands out for its powerful AWD system and premium hybrid performance in the SUV segment.

BYD Shark 6 PHEV

Launched in July 2025, the BYD Shark 6 PHEV made history as Pakistan’s first plug-in hybrid pickup truck, combining utility with eco-friendly performance.

  • Powertrain: 1.5-litre turbo engine + dual electric motors (front & rear)
  • Output: ~321 kW power, 650 Nm torque
  • Electric-Only Range: ~100 km (NEDC) with Blade battery pack
  • Performance: 0–100 km/h in ~5.7 seconds
  • Price: Approx. PKR 20 million (2 crore)
It stands out as the first PHEV pickup truck in the country, showing that hybrid tech can meet heavy-duty needs.

Although these three models currently lead the segment, more PHEV cars are expected soon. Toyota has already launched the Corolla Cross Hybrid (an HEV), while Sazgar plans to introduce the Tank-500 hi4-T PHEV SUV and Cannon Alpha hi4-T PHEV pickup by early 2026. These upcoming vehicles signal a market opening up for a wider range of eco-friendly options.
