Imagine setting off from Lahore and reaching Islamabad nearly an hour earlier than before. What once seemed like a distant dream is now becoming reality, thanks to the new Lahore Islamabad Motorway Expansion — a massive upgrade that will reshape how millions travel between Punjab’s two major cities.
A Strategic, Future-Ready Upgrade
At a recent high-level meeting, top government officials laid out an ambitious plan not only for today but for the next 30 years of road infrastructure. This forward-thinking vision aims to deliver long-lasting, high-quality roads designed for a growing population and a modern economy.
The highlight? Transforming the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway into a powerful, seamless corridor connecting Kharian and Islamabad. This extension will widen the existing four-lane road to a six-lane, high-speed motorway, cutting the total travel distance by around 100 kilometers and commute time by nearly an hour.
Connecting Communities and Boosting Growth
More than just saving time, this upgraded route will connect entire communities. Cities like Gujranwala, Gujrat, Kharian, Jhelum, and Gujar Khan will be linked more efficiently than ever before. Whether you’re traveling for business, family, or tourism, this faster route will help unlock economic opportunities, boost regional trade, and make daily life easier for thousands of commuters.
As Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan emphasized, “We are transforming this corridor into a high-speed, six-lane route to serve as a game-changer for Punjab’s road infrastructure.”
Quality, Speed, and Aesthetic Upgrades
The plan doesn’t just stop at speed and shorter distance. Officials have been instructed to fast-track development without compromising on quality — ensuring roads that are durable, safe, and easy to travel. A special push has also been made to complete the pending construction on the Multan Road to Ring Road corridor in Lahore.
Adding to this commitment, the government plans to beautify the Multan Road stretch from Hadiyara to Ring Road, turning it into not just a functional highway but an attractive gateway for daily commuters and visitors alike.
A New Era for Punjab’s Connectivity
This landmark motorway upgrade is more than just a road project — it’s a leap toward a more connected, efficient, and visually appealing Punjab. By modernizing the Lahore Islamabad Motorway and creating a direct, high-speed link through Kharian, this project promises to make travel smoother, faster, and more convenient for millions.
