In a progressive step toward promoting clean energy and supporting educational mobility, the Punjab Government has launched a free electric bike scheme for Zakat-eligible students across the province. The initiative will distribute 10,000 electric bikes to deserving male and female students, aiming to reduce transportation costs and encourage sustainable travel.

The scheme was approved during a recent meeting of the Punjab Zakat and Ushr Council’s sub-committee, chaired by Rashid Iqbal Nasrullah, Special Assistant to Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz on Zakat and Ushr. Key attendees included Senator Dr. Ghaus Muhammad Khan Niazi, MPA Malik Iftikhar Ahmed, Parliamentary Secretary Zubair Ahmed, and other provincial officials.

Punjab E-Bike Scheme: A Vision for Sustainability and Accessibility

According to Rashid Iqbal Nasrullah, the Punjab free electric bike initiative will begin with 2,000 e-bikes in the first phase, with the remaining 8,000 distributed in subsequent phases. This step is designed to support students who qualify for Zakat assistance, many of whom struggle with reliable and affordable transportation to educational institutions.

He emphasized that the electric bike program in Punjab reflects the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to combine welfare initiatives with eco-friendly transportation. “This is just the beginning,” said Nasrullah. “The government is committed to introducing more programs that enhance the lives of Zakat beneficiaries.”

Benefits of the Free E-Bike Scheme for Students in Punjab

  • Promotes clean energy through the use of electric vehicles
  • Reduces daily commuting costs for low-income students
  • Supports access to education by providing reliable transport
  • Empowers youth and encourages self-reliance

A Step Toward Educational Equity and Environmental Responsibility

The free electric bike scheme is part of a larger vision to blend social welfare with sustainability efforts in Punjab. By helping students access schools and colleges more easily, the government is not only promoting educational equity but also taking action against environmental pollution.

With the Punjab government’s commitment to expanding such welfare programs, the province is on track to set new standards for student support initiatives in Pakistan.
