The KPT Flyover will remain closed for one month starting this week as the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) begins urgent repair and maintenance work, city officials confirmed. The closure is aimed at ensuring public safety and improving the aging infrastructure.

Mayor Murtaza Wahab announced that the structural repairs are critical for the long-term stability of the flyover. In response to the closure, the Karachi Traffic Police have released a diversion plan, urging commuters to use alternate routes and avoid the KPT Flyover during the repair period.

Traffic Diversions and Commuter Advisory

Residents and daily commuters are advised to follow the updated traffic guidelines issued by authorities. Traffic congestion is expected in surrounding areas, and drivers are encouraged to plan ahead to minimize delays.

Karachi Power Outages Spark Protests

The flyover closure coincides with growing unrest in Karachi due to frequent power outages. Residents of Liaquatabad and Azizabad took to the streets, blocking main roads and protesting against K-Electric. Protesters burned tyres and demanded immediate restoration of electricity as the city faces extreme heat.

Karachi Weather Update: Heatwave Continues

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecasted temperatures up to 41°C today (Tuesday) in Karachi, with minimal wind and no immediate relief from the heat. Winds from the northwest were recorded at just 2 km/h, but a return of the sea breeze is expected by April 24, which may bring some cooling.

Possible Dust Storms and High Humidity Ahead

Weather officials have warned that excessive heat could lead to dust storms or windstorms in the next 48 hours. Once the sea breeze returns, humidity levels are also expected to rise, adding to the discomfort.
