Pakistan Aims to Establish 10,000 EV Charging Stations by 2030 as Part of Ambitious Green Transport Plan

In an important step toward a sustainable future, Pakistan’s government has announced its plan to establish 10,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations nationwide by 2030. This announcement was made by the Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, at the recent “Electric Bike Models Exhibition” hosted by the Engineering Development Board (EDB). The initiative forms part of Pakistan’s larger vision to reduce dependency on fuel, cut carbon emissions, and promote eco-friendly transportation across the country.

A Growing Interest from the Private Sector

This forward-looking plan has already garnered significant interest from the private sector, with 31 companies expressing their willingness to invest in Pakistan’s electric vehicle market. Additionally, two firms have obtained licenses to begin production of electric vehicles within the country, highlighting a positive trend toward building local capacity for EV manufacturing and infrastructure.

New EV Policy to Roll Out Soon

In a further step to accelerate green transport adoption, the government has committed to launching a new EV policy by November 30. This policy is expected to introduce attractive incentives and streamlined guidelines for companies and consumers, making it easier to transition to electric transportation options. By providing regulatory support and financial incentives, the government aims to remove barriers to EV adoption and ensure a smooth transition to sustainable mobility.

Electric Bikes: Incentives for Youth and Public Support

To encourage young people to participate in sustainable practices, the government is also launching a merit-based scheme to award electric bikes to 100 students. This initiative aims to engage youth in eco-friendly transportation solutions and promote electric bikes as an affordable, sustainable commuting option. Furthermore, the government has allocated Rs 4 billion for electric motorcycle production, showing a commitment to making sustainable transport accessible to a broader population.
