In a bid to enhance accessibility and convenience for pilgrims during the holy month of Ramadan, the General Authority for the Care of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has introduced an innovative service: smart golf carts for tawaf, the circling of the Holy Kaaba. This thoughtful initiative aims to assist elderly individuals and those with special needs as they perform their religious rites amidst the bustling Umrah season.

The authority’s announcement heralds a welcome addition to the pilgrimage experience, offering a solution for pilgrims who may find it challenging to navigate the expansive Grand Mosque during peak times. Pilgrims eligible for this service can access the smart golf carts through various entrances, including the Ajyad Escalators, King Abdulaziz Gate Elevators, and Umrah Gate Elevators.

Operating from 4:00 pm to 4:00 am daily, spanning a total of 12 hours, these golf carts provide a convenient means of completing the tawaf ritual. For a nominal fee of SR25 per person, inclusive of tax, pilgrims can avail themselves of this service, easing the physical strain often associated with circumambulating the Kaaba. With a fleet of 50 golf carts in operation, each capable of accommodating up to 10 passengers, this initiative aims to ensure accessibility for a significant number of individuals.

Pilgrims seeking to utilize the smart golf cart service can easily obtain tickets from designated sales points located on the roof of the Grand Mosque. This streamlined process facilitates seamless access to the carts, allowing pilgrims to focus their energies on their spiritual journey rather than logistical challenges.

As the Grand Mosque continues to welcome worshippers from around the world, initiatives such as the introduction of smart golf carts underscore the commitment to inclusivity and support for all pilgrims, irrespective of age or physical ability. By harnessing technology to enhance accessibility, the authorities aim to foster a more inclusive and accommodating environment, enabling all worshippers to partake in the sacred rituals with ease and tranquility.
