Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has introduced a groundbreaking initiative to empower the youth of Punjab with the distribution of 100,000 e-bikes and 50,000 scholarships in the coming year. The transformative announcement was made during a vibrant ceremony at Okara University, where scholarship cheques were distributed to students as part of Pakistan’s largest educational support program.

Scholarships and E-Bikes: A Path to Youth Empowerment

Maryam Nawaz emphasized the merit-based nature of the initiatives, stating, “This is not charity—it is an acknowledgment of your hard work and potential.” The Talented Students Scholarship Program will award 30,000 scholarships this year, increasing to 50,000 next year, along with 100,000 e-bikes for students to improve their mobility. These programs aim to make education accessible and support students in achieving their goals.

Additionally, she revealed plans to establish the Okara Medical College by 2025, marking a significant step in advancing higher education in the region. The event also celebrated the arrival of the first batch of laptops under the student support program, further aiding academic pursuits.

Key Highlights of the Punjab Youth Empowerment Scheme

1. 100,000 E-Bikes Distribution:

• Designed to enhance students’ mobility and independence.

• Merit-based allocation, ensuring equal opportunities for all eligible students.

2. Scholarship Program:

• Annual scholarships increased from 30,000 to 50,000.

• Strict adherence to merit, with no political influence in the selection process.

3. International Scholarships:

• Initiatives are underway to facilitate students in obtaining international educational opportunities.

4. Subsidy for E-Bikes:

• The Punjab government has allocated a subsidy of PKR 2.6 billion for the scheme.

How to Apply for the E-Bike Scheme

Students can apply for the e-bike scheme if they meet the following criteria:

• Must be over 18 years of age.

• Must be a regular student of a degree college or university recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

• Must hold a valid motorcycle learner’s permit or driving license.
