In a significant move aimed at addressing Lahore’s chronic parking crisis, the Punjab government has announced the construction of multiple multi-storey parking plazas across the city. The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Saturday, where she stressed the urgency of resolving the city’s long-standing traffic and parking issues.

13 Key Locations Identified for Parking Plazas

As part of a comprehensive urban management and traffic decongestion strategy, officials revealed that planning work has already been completed for the development of parking plazas at 13 critical points across Lahore. These locations were selected based on high congestion levels and frequent complaints from both commuters and business owners.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed authorities to re-evaluate all identified sites to ensure that each location will deliver maximum benefit in terms of traffic flow and accessibility. Immediate construction was ordered at priority hotspots, including:

  • Regal Chowk
  • Town Hall
  • Circular Road
  • And other densely populated areas in Lahore

A Step Toward Smarter Urban Infrastructure

The construction of these modern parking facilities is expected to not only reduce traffic bottlenecks but also improve the overall commuting experience for both residents and visitors. With thousands of cars flooding Lahore’s streets daily, the lack of organized parking has become a major contributor to urban chaos, double parking, and frequent road blockages.

This initiative reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to urban renewal, infrastructure modernization, and efficient city planning. The parking plaza project is poised to significantly enhance Lahore’s traffic management system and make daily commuting smoother, safer, and more convenient.

The announcement has received a largely positive response from citizens and urban planning experts, who see it as a much-needed step toward sustainable city development. Many believe that these structured parking solutions will also boost local businesses by making commercial areas more accessible and reducing the time spent searching for parking. In the long run, this initiative could pave the way for smart city infrastructure, integrating digital payment systems, surveillance, and automated space management to further enhance urban mobility in Lahore.
