Karachi is gearing up for the International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2024, scheduled to be held from November 19 to 22 at the Karachi Expo Centre. As one of Pakistan’s most significant defence and security events, IDEAS 2024 will showcase the nation’s capabilities in arms manufacturing while attracting international vendors and stakeholders. However, to ensure smooth management and security during the event, several key roads in Karachi will be closed, and traffic rerouted. Commuters are advised to stay updated on traffic advisories to minimize inconvenience.

Key Road Closures for IDEAS 2024

November 18, 2024

  • Shahrah-e-Faisal and Stadium Road: Closed to general traffic from 1:00 AM to 4:00 AM.
    • Traffic Impact: Vehicles from the airport will not be allowed to use Karsaz or Stadium Road during this time.

November 19-22, 2024

  • Hassan Square Flyover to Stadium Road: Closed daily from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
  • Roads linking University Road and Stadium Road to the Expo Centre: Shut down during the same hours.

Alternate Routes for Commuters

To reduce delays, the Sindh government and Karachi police have announced alternative routes for vehicles during the event:

  1. To the Airport:
    • Use Shaheed-e-Millat Road, Hasan Square, Rashid Minhas Road, or Drigh Road.
  2. From FTC and Nursery Areas:
    • Traffic will be redirected away from the airport area to prevent congestion.
  3. For Traffic Approaching from NIPA and Gulshan Chowrangi:
    • Recommended routes include Sehrahb Goth or Drigh Road.
  4. Commercial Vehicles:
    • Use Shaheed-e-Millat Road or Teen Hatti Road.

Restrictions on Heavy and Commercial Traffic

  • Stadium Road Access: Heavy and commercial vehicles will be diverted from Rashid Minhas Road to alternate routes via NIPA, Askari 4, Shahrah-e-Faisal, or NIPA Chowrangi.
  • Hassan Square Area: Roads from NIPA to Hassan Square and Jail Chowrangi to Hassan Square will be closed to heavy and commercial vehicles.
  • University Road: Traffic from University Road (coming from NIPA) will be barred from turning left towards the Expo Centre.
  • Karsaz Road: Heavy vehicles, including water tankers, will be prohibited from using the Karsaz Road off Shahrah-e-Faisal.

Enhanced Security Measures Around Expo Centre

The Sindh government has intensified security around the Karachi Expo Centre in preparation for IDEAS 2024. Security personnel have been deployed in and around the venue to ensure a safe environment.

Tips for Commuters

  • Plan routes in advance and allow extra time for travel during the event.
  • Stay updated on real-time traffic advisories through local media or mobile apps.
  • Follow instructions from traffic authorities to avoid penalties and delays.

By staying informed and utilizing alternate routes, commuters can navigate through Karachi with minimal disruption during this prestigious international event.
