Faisalabad to Launch Digital Public Transport App with Real-Time Tracking

In a major step towards modernizing urban mobility, the Faisalabad divisional administration has announced plans to introduce a digital public transport system featuring a dedicated mobile application with real-time vehicle tracking and an electric vehicle (EV) battery-swapping network. The initiative aims to improve the daily commuting experience while supporting the city’s transition towards smarter and more sustainable transportation.

The announcement was made by Commissioner Faisalabad and President of the Faisalabad Urban Transport Society (FUTS), Imran Hamid Sheikh, who said the project will integrate government and private transport services onto a single digital platform.

One App for All Public Transport Services

The upcoming Faisalabad Public Transport App will serve as a centralized platform for commuters across the division’s four districts. The app will enable passengers to access real-time information about multiple public transport services, eliminating the uncertainty of waiting for buses and other vehicles.

According to officials, the application will allow users to track:

  • Government buses
  • Metro buses
  • Electric buses
  • Registered urban Hiace vehicles

With live tracking functionality, passengers will be able to monitor vehicle locations, estimate arrival times, and plan their journeys more efficiently.

Smart Route Planning for Commuters

Beyond live tracking, the app will include an intelligent route planning feature designed to simplify travel across Faisalabad.

Passengers will be able to:

  • Find the fastest available routes
  • View recommended transfer points
  • Check estimated arrival times
  • Plan complete journeys before leaving home

These digital features are expected to reduce travel time, improve convenience, and encourage greater use of public transportation.

Free Mobile App with Digital Vehicle Registration

The Faisalabad Public Transport App will be available free of charge for commuters.

To ensure efficient management of the transport network, the platform will also support the digital registration of public transport vehicles through integration with the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB). This digital integration is expected to improve transparency, streamline fleet management, and create a more organized public transport ecosystem.

Operator Registration to Begin Soon

Commissioner Imran Hamid Sheikh stated that the registration process for transport operators is expected to begin within the next 15 days to one month ahead of the application’s official launch.

This phase will enable government authorities to onboard transport operators, verify vehicle information, and prepare the digital infrastructure before making the service available to the public.

EV Battery-Swapping Network to Support Electric Mobility

Alongside the digital platform, the divisional administration also plans to establish an EV battery-swapping network, marking another important milestone in Faisalabad’s push toward sustainable transportation.

Battery-swapping technology allows electric vehicles to replace depleted batteries with fully charged ones within minutes, significantly reducing charging downtime. Such infrastructure can improve the operational efficiency of electric buses and other commercial EVs while encouraging wider adoption of clean transportation.

A First for Faisalabad—and Potentially Pakistan

Officials believe the initiative will become the first integrated digital public transport platform in Faisalabad and could also be the first comprehensive system of its kind in Punjab and Pakistan.

By combining live vehicle tracking, route planning, digital fleet registration, and support for electric mobility, the project represents a significant advancement in Pakistan’s evolving smart transportation landscape.

If implemented successfully, the Faisalabad model could serve as a blueprint for other cities seeking to modernize public transport through digital technology and sustainable mobility solutions.

The upcoming Faisalabad Public Transport App marks an important step toward creating a smarter, more connected, and environmentally friendly urban transport system. With real-time vehicle tracking, route planning, digital registration, and an EV battery-swapping network, the initiative has the potential to transform how residents travel across the division while setting a new benchmark for digital public transportation in Pakistan.
