BYD, a global leader in clean energy solutions, has unveiled its latest innovation in home energy storage—the Battery-Box HVB, the fourth-generation residential storage system. Introduced at the Smart E trade show, this next-gen energy storage unit marks a major milestone, as it is the first time BYD’s Blade Battery technology has been applied outside the automotive sector.
The Blade Battery, renowned for its safety, longevity, and thermal stability in BYD electric vehicles, has now been adapted for residential use. With this launch, BYD aims to deliver higher energy efficiency, enhanced storage capacity, and improved safety for homeowners seeking sustainable power solutions.
The Battery-Box HVB boasts a gravimetric energy density of 108.8 Wh/kg, a nearly 50% improvement over the previous HVM model. Additionally, its volumetric density has increased by more than 139%, reaching 162.88 Wh/L, making it one of the most space-efficient home battery systems on the market.
Its modular design allows flexible configuration: each 27.3 kg module delivers 2.97 kWh, with stacks ranging from 2 to 10 modules (5.9 kWh to 29.6 kWh). Up to three stacks can be connected for a maximum capacity of 89.07 kWh. The system delivers continuous output of 25.6 kW and can manage peak loads up to 50.18 kW. An IP55 rating ensures durability under diverse environmental conditions.
Although pricing and global availability have yet to be announced, the initial launch is expected in Germany, where BYD already holds a strong position in the residential battery market. Alongside the HVB, BYD revealed plans to upgrade its current HVS and HVM systems. The upcoming HVS+ and HVM+ versions will feature enhanced control units and a redesigned setup app for faster installation.
With the growing demand for renewable energy storage solutions, BYD’s new Battery-Box HVB positions the company at the forefront of the home energy revolution. Experts believe that this strategic move will strengthen the synergy between BYD’s home and electric vehicle battery technologies, accelerating LFP battery adoption worldwide.
