BYD Crosses 10,000 Vehicles in Pakistan Ahead of Local Assembly

BYD has crossed a major milestone in Pakistan after more than 10,000 vehicles from the Chinese new energy vehicle manufacturer reached customers across the country. Mega Motor Company (MMC), BYD’s official local partner, described the achievement as the fastest ramp-up by a new entrant NEV brand in Pakistan’s automotive history.

The milestone comes as BYD and MMC prepare to move towards local vehicle assembly. The planned facility could mark an important change in Pakistan’s growing electric and new energy vehicle market.

BYD Expands Its Presence in Pakistan

BYD entered Pakistan with the Atto 3 electric SUV and Seal electric sedan. Since then, the company has expanded its local portfolio to five models covering different vehicle segments.

The lineup now includes the Atto 2, Sealion 7 and Shark 6 alongside its earlier models. The Shark 6 is particularly notable because it brings plug-in hybrid technology to Pakistan’s pickup truck segment.

According to MMC, the Atto 2 has also emerged as Pakistan’s top-selling electric vehicle. The growing range gives BYD a broader presence across the country’s developing NEV market.

The 10,000-vehicle milestone also comes before the start of local assembly operations. This gives BYD an established customer base as the company prepares for the next stage of its expansion.

Local NEV Manufacturing Planned

Mega Motor Company says it is preparing to launch what it describes as Pakistan’s first and largest NEV assembly facility. The planned plant is expected to focus exclusively on new energy vehicles.

The facility represents a potential shift in Pakistan’s automotive industry. Much of the country’s early NEV growth has relied on imported vehicles. Local assembly could eventually support a larger and more established NEV manufacturing ecosystem.

MMC CEO Aly Khan said the company had focused on developing infrastructure, capabilities and market presence since entering the segment. He described the upcoming assembly facility as the next stage of that strategy.

The development could also create opportunities for greater local participation in the NEV supply chain as production expands.

BYD Sees Pakistan as an Important Market

BYD has also highlighted the importance of its growing presence in Pakistan. Liu Xueliang, Vice President of BYD Co. Ltd. and General Manager of the BYD Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division, said the market had quickly become an important part of the company’s global expansion.

He also pointed to the confidence shown by Pakistani consumers as a significant factor behind the company’s progress.

A Growing NEV Market in Pakistan

The 10,000-vehicle milestone highlights the increasing presence of new energy vehicles in Pakistan’s automotive market. BYD’s expansion also comes alongside wider interest in electric cars, hybrids and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

The upcoming assembly facility could further change how NEVs are introduced and produced in the country. If the planned facility reaches full operation, BYD and MMC will move from primarily supplying imported vehicles toward a model that includes local manufacturing.

For Pakistan’s automotive industry, the development marks another step in the transition toward new energy mobility. BYD’s growing customer base, expanding model range and planned assembly operations could make the company a significant participant in the country’s evolving NEV landscape.
