The enforcement campaign will primarily target rickshaws, taxis, and ride-hailing vehicles that have failed to install the QR-based passenger safety feature. Authorities have issued a final warning to vehicle operators, urging them to complete registration and obtain their QR codes before the deadline.
What Is the QR Panic Code?
Despite being referred to as a “panic code,” the system is not a physical panic button installed inside the vehicle. Instead, it consists of a QR code sticker or printed code displayed prominently inside the vehicle where passengers can easily access it.
Passengers can scan the QR code using any smartphone camera. Once scanned, a digital interface opens, providing important information about the vehicle and driver.
The system displays details including:
- Driver identity and verification status
- Vehicle registration information
- Vehicle owner details
- Trip-sharing options for passengers
This allows passengers to verify that they are traveling in a registered and authorized vehicle, enhancing confidence and transparency in public transportation services.
How the Emergency Feature Works?
The QR Panic Code also serves as a digital emergency response tool. If a passenger encounters an emergency situation, they can activate the panic feature directly through the interface that appears after scanning the QR code.
Once activated, the system instantly transmits:
- Passenger location
- Vehicle information
- Driver details
The alert is sent to Lahore Traffic Police and the Safe City Authority, enabling authorities to track the vehicle and coordinate a faster emergency response.
Officials believe the initiative will significantly improve passenger security, particularly for women, students, tourists, and individuals using ride-hailing services during late hours.
How Vehicle Owners Can Obtain the QR Code?
Vehicle owners and drivers are required to visit designated Lahore Traffic Police facilitation centers to obtain the QR Panic Code.
Applicants must present:
- Valid driving license
- Vehicle registration card
- National identity documents and other required records
After successful verification, authorities issue a QR code sticker that must be displayed inside the vehicle where passengers can easily scan it.
