Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed authorities to accelerate work on key infrastructure projects across Karachi, with a strong focus on completing the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line while maintaining quality and transparency standards.
During a detailed inspection visit on Sunday, the chief minister reviewed ongoing development work alongside provincial ministers, the city mayor, and senior officials. The visit included a comprehensive tour of the BRT Red Line corridor, stretching from Peoples Chowrangi to Safoora Chowrangi, one of the city’s most critical transit routes.
BRT Red Line: A Key Transport Lifeline
The Karachi BRT Red Line is considered a vital initiative aimed at improving public transport in Karachi. Once completed, it is expected to significantly ease commuting for thousands of daily passengers by providing a dedicated and efficient bus corridor.
Officials briefed the chief minister on the current status of construction, highlighting ongoing efforts to upgrade mixed-traffic lanes along University Road. These include repair work, patching, and road widening to accommodate growing traffic demand.
Road Rehabilitation and Traffic Management
The administration is carrying out asphalt overlay work in multiple sections, particularly during nighttime, to minimize disruption for commuters. This strategy aims to ensure smoother traffic flow during peak hours while maintaining steady progress on construction.
During the visit to Pahalwan Goth, the chief minister reviewed rehabilitation work on a key traffic artery and emphasized the need for visible improvements. He instructed departments to operate in multiple shifts to accelerate progress and meet deadlines without compromising on construction standards.
Addressing Waterlogging Issues
A major concern raised during the inspection was recurring water accumulation at Nipa, a persistent issue that disrupts traffic and damages road infrastructure. The chief minister directed relevant authorities to develop and implement a permanent drainage solution to prevent future problems.
Improving drainage systems is seen as critical for the long-term sustainability of Karachi’s road network, particularly during the monsoon season when waterlogging becomes a widespread challenge.
Azeempura Flyover Deadline Set
In addition to the BRT project, Syed Murad Ali Shah also inspected the under-construction Azeempura flyover located in Shah Faisal Colony. He issued clear instructions for the project to be completed within 90 days, underscoring the government’s commitment to fast-tracking essential infrastructure.
Focus on Transparency and Quality
Throughout the visit, the chief minister stressed the importance of maintaining transparency in project execution and ensuring that construction quality is not compromised in the push for faster completion.
With multiple large-scale projects underway, Karachi is undergoing a significant phase of urban development. The timely completion of these initiatives—especially the BRT Red Line—could play a crucial role in reducing congestion, improving mobility, and enhancing the overall commuting experience for residents.
